From Amazon.co.uk

There's nothing original in The Scorpion King, but this derivative action franchise gets off to a rousing start by cleverly stealing from a lot of better movies. Capitalising on his brief cameo in The Mummy Returns, Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a. World Wrestling Federation star the Rock) stars as Mathayus, an Akkadian assassin in the age preceding Egyptian pharaohs, who vows to avenge his brother's murder by an undefeated warlord (Steven Brand) prophesied to become the desert-ruling Scorpion King. Their battle for supremacy comprises most of the film's brisk 95-minute running time, punctuated by comic relief from Mathayus's obligatory sidekick (Grant Heslov), romance with a beautiful sorceress (Kelly Hu), and alliance with a massive Nubian (Michael Clarke Duncan) on the eve of their climactic showdown. There's no rhyme or reason to the film's depiction of ancient civilization (the costuming is particularly ludicrous), but the Rock demonstrates adequate action-star potential, and director Chuck Russell (The Mask) wraps it all in a slick, professional package. --Jeff Shannon

4.0 out of 5 stars a good bit of fun 8 April 2009
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
while only loosely a part of the mummy family this is a fun easy watch dwayne"the rock"johnson plays the title role and does a good job with the limited script.there is no attempt made to make this into anything other than a saturday afternoon movie for the kids to enjoy and as such it succeeds admirably.
the visuals are superb as is the sound quality of the blu-ray there is also a good range of special features on the disc which all add to an all round good disc and great value for the price.
so if like me you are a bit of a sad boy who has to have the whole series of movies or you just want a film that the kids can enjoy i would recommend this disc.

1.0 out of 5 stars I had a reliious moment! 15 Sep 2013
Format:DVD
Seriously, I did. I've never watched a film and dropped my head into my hands while saying "Oh God" out loud so often as I did while watching this pile of dross.

I hate myself for watching to the end, what a waste of time. I've only myself to blame for not switching off after 15 minutes though.

2.0 out of 5 stars Camels are smarter.... 17 Jan 2014
Format:Blu-ray
In an ancient time, predating the pyramids, King Memnon is using the psychic powers of his sorceress Cassandra to for tell his great victories.

In a last ditch effort to stop Memnon from taking over the world, the leaders of the remaining free tribes hire the assassin Mathayus to kill the sorceress.

But Mathayus ends up getting much more than he bargained for.

Now with the help of the trickster Arpid, tribal leader Balthazar and an unexpected ally, it's up to Mathayus to fulfill his destiny and become the great Scorpion King.....

A silly spin off of an even sillier movie, The Scorpian King is by the numbers Conan piffle, but it does show that Dwayne Johnson had very good screen presence, even though the script is dire.

Russell is a good director, and knows how to handle a high concept movie, but here he loses the plot.....and then some.

So what we are left with is Johnson and the great film writer Grant Heslov walking around the desert, bickering, having fights, bickering some more, and chasing after the cut price Sean Pertwee.

There isn't any urgency in the movie, the set pieces are lethargic, and Kelly Hu's hair is always in the wrong place.

It's the Fast and the Furious of sword and sandals movies, and it just plods on and on, until the predictable finale.

If your a fan of Johnson, forget this, and start with The Rundown, at least it's fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice part of the 'mummy' franchise 9 Oct 2013
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
Although an off shoot of the Mummy series, this was a well made and enjoyable Egyptian romp. It is one of those films that is worth re-watching when there is nothing else to watch on TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars HE 'S ONE REBELIOUS ROCK. 3 Oct 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Since THE SCORPION KING is DWAYNE (THE ROCK) JOHNSON'S first movie he starred in after putting his wrestling life on hold, it turned out pretty good. I know that some people have a born talent for doing best acting like SYLVESTER STALLONE, JEAN-CLAUDE VAN DAMME, AND BRUCE WILLIS in action pack movies. THE ROCK is one of them because his performance really shows his physical and emotional character coming out of the big screen when you watch him in this movie. He really brings out the best of THE SCORPION KING, ALL HAIL TO THE ALMIGHTY!!!
