I am a follower of Jesus Christ and have read Science & Health for many years. [...]Why?

Firstly, from a theological standpoint, there are many ideas in Science and Health that other Christian's that I know agree with! The Bible is not a book that can be viewed only one way, and God is not a God who saves only the few and condemns the rest to eternal punishment. So I would be very careful when reading comments from those who read the Bible and condemn Mrs Eddy's viewpoint. They obviously have a very narrow viewpoint themselves.

Secondly, although I understand the concerns of many in the medical profession regarding the teaching's in Science and Health on the subject of exclusive reliance on God for healing; it is noticeable that there are literally tens of thousands of people who claim to have been healed by relying on God as taught in this book, and of these there is a substantial minority that have been medically diagnosed and their cases cannot be explained away by Placebo, Spontaneous Remission or any of the other medical theories that have sprung up. I suggest you read Dr Larry Dossey's comments in this regard (and he is not the only medical doctor who supports the evidence of healing through prayer).

There is an issue over abuse of the teachings in Science and Health and miss-understandings that arise, especially where a religious institution (i.e. The Christian Science Church) has taken a stand in attempting to gain exemptions in law that allow Christian Science treatment to be given to children in lieu of medical treatment. However, abuse happens in all walks of life, including in medical institutions. Patients die under medical care. The question I would raise, is what would have happened if those cases had be given over to Christian Science?

This book shows us how we can know ourselves as the God sees us. It is a practical guide that has helped many people to progress in their lives and freed them from sickness, unemployment, fear, relationship problems etc. It presents a radically different view, one where man (using the generic term), is not limited by birth or circumstance, but where we can see our true selfhood as God's child, as His reflection, only ever experiencing all that is good.

I found this book in a library just over 4 years ago. I have been reading and studying it since. During that time, I have received innumerable benefits and blessings from applying the ideas it teaches. If you are wondering about the true nature of God and His/Her creation, and what that means for you, then this is the book to read! It truly is healing.

You don't know me, so why should you value to my opinion. Instead I'm going to quote the better known and far more respected, Albert Einstein. Who once said:
'If everyone realized what is in that book (meaning Science and Health), you would not have enough room anywhere to accommodate the people who would be clamoring for it.'"

To my mind, there are two things of import here: one - does the author express herself in a succinct and clearly understandable way; two - does Christian Science stand up to scrutiny. Some say that she had a ghost writer, or not least a co-author when writing the book. Such a claim does not surprise me because there does seem to be an enormous amount of repetition in the book; perhaps a sign that more hands than one were involved in the writing thereof. Even though I support the knowing of Christian Science, I really had to struggle in order to finish reading the book. Mary Baker Eddy was one smart lady; no doubt about it. Christain Science is efficacious if properly understood.

This book is something that you will want to carry with you every day, which is why having it on my Kindle as an e-book is so great. Because it is a book of ideas, the wordsearch, bookmark, link to the dictionary and all the other Kindle Touch facilities, helps to make this e-book the most useful e-book to have on my Kindle

I have just finished reading this book for the 21st time, from cover to cover. It is a new book every time, as my understanding has increased more with each study. I have also read individual chapters over and over, and have been able to heal the sick through my prayers since the first reading. It can be a difficult book to understand at first, but when you consider the subject matter, that shouldn't be surprising. Buy it..! As the author advises..., "Read this book from beginning to end. Study it. Ponder it."
