I have now had this book since release date and felt in a good position to write a review. First of all this is not a traditional 'encyclopedia ' type approach to the topic of Sci fi ; what it is is a comprehensive selection of detailed essay type analyses of movies/ writers/TV series/ computer games all associated with Sci fi.
The amount of information contained within its 570 odd pages is immense and will keep most people occupied for a long time. The book is also scattered with double page spreads of colour photos for the more iconic entries, of which there are quite a few.
So why only four stars you may ask?
As much as I love the subject and this book my main complaint is that this book needed to be larger ,more coffee table than paperback size. It is lovingly illustrated with book covers/movie posters/comic covers/ computer game covers/DVD covers etc at the top of each page - but they are all postage stamp sized. Had this book been larger on size then those would have been wonderfully presented in a larger format and really added to the value of the book. Yes it would have been more expensive but I for one would have happily paid double for that.
As it stands it is still a seminal piece of work on the subject matter, just in a smaller size which fails to do justice to the art and photography contained within its many pages.

This is a truly beautiful and massively comprehensive survey of science fiction media of all kinds from film and television to classic and contemporary literature and even graphic novels. The format is very well put together, and scattered with copious images from film and classic book covers the features entertaining and informative and the sheer weight and volume if information should keep any self respecting sci-fi geek or enthusiast happy for months.

When I flicked through this book in a local Waterstones, I suddenly found myself quite shocked that nobody had done this kind of reference book before - i.e. pick an author, series of books, movie, TV series or video game in the sci-fi genre and then assemble together all other media references to it, put in a timeline and then, in some cases, try to work out how canonical it all is, especially when it comes to novels and comics.

This is a sci-fi geek's bible, as well as being a useful reference for collectors - did you know, for example, there had been a series of graphic novels and comics for the "zombie" movie "28 Weeks Later"?

This is definitely a reference book and one you will keep coming back to, very pleased to add this to my collection.

This is an extremely detailed, comprehensive visual chronological encyclopedia of the genre of Science Fiction - Books, Magazines, Pulp Novellas, TV, and Movies.

I can't recommend this highly enough - if you only want one volume detailing the History of Science Fiction in all its forms, this is the one to get.

Considering the page volume, size, layout and the extremely low price, this is definitive.

A five star highly recommended must Buy.

Stunning and Beautiful.

Hard back edition, concisely written, logically structured, well researched guide to sci-fi books, t.v. and films.
The precision and accuracy of fact is excellent.
I recommend this book to anyone who appreciates sci-fi.
For me, the only fault is the smallness of the pictures.
Not relating to the book, was the poor-quality packaging, my copy arrived bashed!
