More About the Author

Game designer, writer, self publisher, freelancer, rakish fop, gentleman bastard, ten times more charming than that Arnold on Green Acres.

Born and raised in the Hampshire countryside James, or Grim as he is more often known, tried and failed to escape the idyllic greenery. Thanks to the invention of the Internet this turned out not to be quite the disaster it might otherwise have been.

Grim creates a lot of games, was at the vanguard of the ebook revolution in roleplaying game publishing and is now working on stories that are complete in and of themselves and don't require dice and your own imagination.

Sex, science, faith, retrofuturity, sarcasm and wordplay are his 'thing', along with terrible, terrible puns.

This has so many little gems in it. If you want some fluff for your RPG's you have to have this book. I based an entire universe on this book. Great stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful adventure ideas to run any sci-fi RPG 27 April 2012
By Baron Von Cool - Published on Amazon.com
This is a fun book full of helpful adventure ideas (seeds). The ideas are not tied to any rules system or setting, so you can use them with any science fiction or space fantasy RPG. You get one idea per page, with a complete plot with various options as well as spin-off ideas to keep the adventure going after the main plot ends.

The book could have benefitted from better art, better editing, and a lower cover price. While you don't get a lot of pages for your money (especially compared to other RPG publishers), you do get a ton of ideas, so yes, this book is worth it, even if you end up only using a few of the ideas. I found it highly inspirational and wish I'd had it years ago when I ran my Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide (Star Wars Roleplaying Game) campaign.

The author has also written two other 100 ideas sourcebooks for other popular RPG genres (all rules and setting independent so you can use them with any game you want to run): 100 Horror Adventure seeds and 100 Fantasy Adventure seeds. All these books have similar strengths and weaknesses to the sci-fi one, although the horror book seemed to have the most typos and grammar issues, and some of the ideas seemed silly (in fact, some of them definitely were, which is not my cup of tea). The fantasy one seems to consist of mostly high fantasy content, which is probably perfect for Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition fans, but not a grim-n-gritty, low fantasy gamer like me. I would say that the sci-fi adventure book is the best of the three, but that may just be because I have a harder time coming up with sci-fi ideas than horror or fantasy ones.

Note that these books are written in UK English, so there will be some odd words, spellings, and phrases when judged by American English standards.

Other RPG books by this author include: The Slayer's Guide To Female Gamers, The Slayer's Guide To Rules Lawyers, Macho Women With Guns, and Munchkins Guide to Power Gaming (Steve Jackson Games).
4.0 out of 5 stars Good ideas, lots of fun 17 April 2011

These are nicely generic ideas. None of them is tied to any specific game system. Of course this means that none of them is absolutely perfect for any system either, but that's really minor. If you're looking for some inspiration for a role playing game, a PBEM, a story you want to write, or whatever else, this book gives you some great places to start. Each of its 100 'seeds' comes with several options and variations too, so you really get hundreds of starting places, not just 100. This is a pretty good value.
