5.0 out of 5 stars Dichterliebe and Wunderlich 30 Jan 2008
Format:Audio CD
This recording gives a glimpse of paradise. The coupling of Schumann, Beethoven and Schubert presents a superb balance of song styles to keep the listener enthralled throughout - and now to Fritz Wunderlich. I envy anyone who has not yet discovered this perfect lyrical tenor voice, they have yet to hear for the first time what the word musicality really means. Wunderlich's phrasing, his radiant lightness and brilliant diction is beyond comparison in my view. The great tragedy is that his career blazed like a comet for only ten years until in 1966 he was killed in an accident at the age of 35. What a loss to the musical world.

Should you still be unsure because you havent come across the name of Fritz Wunderlich I suggest you google his name for reviews, you will find every review full of superlatives. Buy this recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top interpretations 21 Aug 2011
Format:Audio CD
I have heard many singers and pianists doing Dichterliebe. The early Fischer-Dieskau and Moore recording from Salzburg is one of the very best. The Bostridge and Drake is showing what a superb pianist can do with this music.
But - the Wunderlich and Giesen recording has everything! The voice and the piano re-creates all the feelings in this music. Although the focus is on the drama and the anxiety in the story. There are not much of beautiful miniature paintings.
The tempi are overall on the faster side with a sense of forward.
Wunderlich had a very special voice, something that is 100% obvious in Adelaide.

This is one of the best lieder recordings ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Wunderlich 22 Aug 2012

Wonderful singing with exquisite German. A model performance for anyone wishing to study or enjoy these songs. Accompaniment a little subdued in style at times - the only possible criticism. A superb voice at the height of its powers.
