I bought this CD only for Richter's participation, and it turned out to be right. Death & the Maiden is played in annoyingly rhapsodic manner with lots of ugly tonal blend.
Schumann Quintet is a little better affair. Borodin Qt's over passionate style does not do much harm as in D & Maiden. Richter's involvement with the music is just amazing. Thankfully, for Richter admirers, piano is not pushed far behind as mere background music as it often happens with so many chamber music recordings involving piano. Pianist & string players are finely balanced in this recording.
