The Schoolmouse is a story about a family of mice who live inside a school. One mouse is very interested in what happens in the school and teaches herself to read. Because she can read she saves her Mum and Dad and little sister from eating some mice pellets.
As always, Dick King-Smith writes beautifully, there is a real innocence about this book but at the same time it doesn't shy away from subjects like danger and death and survival of the fittest (or in this case cleverest?) I thoroughly recommend this book. My 2 children (8 & 5) loved it.
