Product Description

Product Description

For anyone training a horse in dressage, classically based in-hand work is a valuable but unfortunately often undervalued part of its education. It is a rarely used tool, but one which variation to the everyday routine and schools both the horse and trainer. This book explains step-by-step and with clear illustrations the straightforward way towards the correct training of horses, working from the ground. Particular emphasis is given to the description of lateral movements, which for a supple horse as well as for the preparation towards the more advanced movements, play a central role.

About the Author

Oliver Hilberger, a trainer based in Austria, works with horses following the principles of classical riding and has gained experience with in-hand work through periods in France and Spain. He places great value on making meaningful suppling exercises accessible to anyone wishing to try it. Oliver Hilberger has published numerous articles in specialist magazines.

I am delighted with this book, it's very clearly explained and beautifully illustrated, with both photographs and diagrams. You are shown where to stand for each movement, and common faults are pointed out and explained. It's just what I needed to help me work my horses in-hand. There are loads of different exercises to work on, so we wont be getting bored. The work is perfect for any horse, of any breed, young or old.
A super book.

Very, very good 24 Nov 2009
Format:Paperback
This is the best book on in hand work that I have come across, to date. The text is beautifully clear and simple, and the photographs and illustrations extremely good. The illustrations really show the handler's body position throughout the movement and this is so very important in in hand work.

The value of in hand work is inestimable, and is so frequently overlooked as unimportant. Nothing could be further than the truth, and in this little book, Oliver Hilberger has written a modern classic. Highly recommended.
