5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for Parents and Proffessionals., 2 Aug 2005
This review is from: School Phobia, Panic Attacks and Anxiety in Children (Paperback)
I am an Education Social Work student as well as a mother of two, and I myself was shy and afraid of school as a child. Whilst researching the topic of school phobia for my course I came across a variety of material relating to the subject, but found that the book "school phobia, panic attacks and anxiety in children - by Marianna Csoti" was the most useful resource in terms of giving parents real and practical advice on how best to deal with the problem.

This book is layed out in an easy to read format and outlines all the main topics relating to school phobia. It provides a very real and very human approach to treating school anxiety and phobia and certainly increased my understanding of the subject immensely. Not only does it empower parents to take an active role in their child's recovery it also gives social workers, teachers, and other proffessionals, a very real insight into some of the hurdles that parents and children must overcome.

I highly recommend this book to anyone working with young people in schools and especially to parents who want to really understand all aspects of school phobia and how to make their children's journey through school a little easier.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for parents, maybe not so much for students, 8 April 2008
This review is from: School Phobia, Panic Attacks and Anxiety in Children (Paperback)
I acquired this book while writing my thesis on School Refusal, and feel that the title would benefit from a subheading to the effect of "A practical guide for parents". The informal tone and lack of academic references (notable exception being the section on bullying) result in a paucity of information that can be applied effectively to academic writing, etc. That said, for parents dealing with this serious problem, I am sure it would be extremely useful. I think students would be better off with something like "Understanding School Refusal" by Thambirajah et al., which is also published by Jessica Kingsley.

5.0 out of 5 stars The book that helped a lot, 3 Oct 2011
By Grateful - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: School Phobia, Panic Attacks and Anxiety in Children (Paperback)
School Phobia Panic Attacks by Marianna Csoti must rate as one of the most important books that I have ever come across or read in my life. The reason is simple: our child (like the writer's at one point in time) recently suffered from such a condition. Just knowing that she is not alone in experiencing the condition and that such conditions are curable, had reassured us a great deal. By helping us to understand our child and her condition better, we could take the initial steps towards her recovery. Furthermore, we managed to put into practice some of the very practical advice presented, and I feel that it really did work. While we have some way to go before our child recovers completely, the author and her book have already helped a lot. Ms Csoti, thank you.
