Bartholomew's maps and atlases were throughout the firm's independent existence well-known for their quality and excellence. So I was interested in this reproduced atlas of 1924.
In the introduction the aim of the atlas is set out. "School Geography must practically be limited to a study of the earth only in relation to man." The writer divides the super abundance of material into three lines politic, historic or economic and considers the last as being of most use to a schoolboy in his future career. The atlas follows this principle. It is a pity that the title of the atlas does not reflect this. The small print of some of the maps is difficult too.

This is a fascinating atlas, but there is one thing that made it less than perfect for me. I suspect that the original had a much larger page size - the apparent reduction means that many of the maps in this one are hard to read, particulary those where there are four to a page.

Having said that, I am not sorry that I bought it - it's a very interesting addition to my collection.
