The King of Pop

Forget everything else. This is the man who made your grandparents laugh. If you give him a chance, he'll educate you in wit, charm & good cheer. This is a diverse buffet of his classic hits and more, less well-known gems. I have listened to it a couple thousand times, and it keeps getting better. In good taste and a real breath of fresh air - considering it's over 50 years old, that is sticking power! Long Live Jimmy Durante, oops, well, anyway ;-)

Good Durante -- Bad Sound Quality!

If you like Durante it is a good CD in that respect, but the product page and description fails to mention that most of the tracks are live version recordings -- and because live recording technology back in Durante's day was quite crude and still in its infancy the sound quality of this CD is very flat and muted-sounding, lacking the typical crisp highs and rich lows one would normally hear on a standard good recording. The tracks on this recording sound as if they were recorded using one of those hand-held cassette recorders and then is being played back through a megaphone ... and the exceptional resolution and clarity of CD technology further enhances that poor sound of this poorly recorded recording.
If you have a discerning ear, and if sound quality plays an important factor in your music listening pleasure, then I recommend that you do not purchase this CD because you will not be pleased with the sound quality, and you will be quite disappointed as I was with this CD. If content rather than sound quality is your preference then be my guest and go for it -- but be forewarned and do not expect much in the way of sound quality of this CD.
