Schizophrenia... Do YOU have the trait?

Schizophrenia is a rare psychotic disorder which is often the subject of fascination for “normal” people. Characterized by visual and auditory hallucinations and thought disturbances, schizophrenia is a very difficult condition to cope with.

In modern society, schizophrenics are often feared and misunderstood, especially since popular culture tends to vilify them and associate them with sociopaths and psychopaths. Although it is true that schizophrenia may be associated with psychopathy, they don’t always go hand-in-hand.

This book attempts to clarify issues and misconceptions about schizophrenia, and to visualize to the reader what exactly goes on in the mind of a schizophrenic. Schizophrenics do not suffer from multiple personality disorder, unlike what is commonly known. Instead, they experience a “split” in their brain and mental functions which make them experience psychotic episodes.

What exactly causes schizophrenia, and what happens during a psychotic episode? Can these episodes be prevented? Why is schizophrenia often associated with violence? Find out about these and more, and prepare to delve into the mind of a schizophrenic.

After reading this book, you can finally understand how schizophrenics feel and live exactly in a world filled with psychosis and hallucinations. This book will also discuss treatment and proper handling of schizophrenia cases, and how you can help a schizophrenic live a normal life despite his or her condition.

Remember: Schizophrenics don’t need to be feared all the time. Often than not, they deserve understanding especially from the people around them in order to avoid mishaps, violent tendencies and accidents from occurring as a consequence of their mental condition.

this book was rubbish, badly written, sensationalist, inaccurate, and misleading. it actually must cause more negative stigma than it claimed to dispell

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful and informative 18 May 2014

My understanding of schizophrenia was the typical understanding provided by Hollywood and television. After reading this book, I have a better understanding. This book provides very detailed information about what schizophrenia is, its characteristics, the symptoms of schizophrenia, along with the therapy, medication, and treatment options. Knowing more about this disease will allow me to be a more understanding and open minded person. I would definitely recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye opener! 11 May 2014

A friend of mine urged me to read about schizophrenia as he thought my brother may have, but I wasn't so sure about it. I decided to look for some help, and I found this book. It I must admit it vastly over-delivers! I learned a lot about this mental illness and Although I can’t cure him, now I can understand my brother much better and know how he may react in some cases. This book contains solid, proven information about this mental illness summarized in 50 pages!

3.0 out of 5 stars Who is the Author? Citations? 5 Jun 2014

No citations, no author bio. Where did the "information" come from? I am a psychologist - I am interested in the topic, but need to know sources.

1.0 out of 5 stars Total ripoff; just general information but no case studies 26 May 2014

If you only just heard the word "schizophrenia," you may want to buy this book. As for "entering the mind of a schizophrenic," as the title luridly promises, no such thing occurs. That is fraud. If you really want an authentic look at the mind of at least one schizophrenic, get Eric Coates's memoir, "Hearing Voices."

If you are curious about schizophrenia or have another reason to want to learn about it then this book will do the job. I was able to learn about what it really means, I didn't even know there were subtypes of schizophrenia. While the book is not that long, it is packed with good information so it will be a not long but entertaining and very informational read. I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as I did. It is good to note that if you are dealing with this problem directly it also provides information about medication and how to cope and support.

Had a family member diagnosed with a mild form of schizophrenia and know of other people affected with this illness. Just love how this book helps bring clarity to what the illness is (and isn't) as well as helps pull back the veil on the stigmas and taboos around this disease. Awesome find. Highly Recommend!
