5.0 out of 5 stars Inspired Richter! 28 Mar 2010
Richter plays the Scherzi like a man inspired, with wonderful presence and seriousness. But there is no sense of strain from this master of the keyboard. His transitions from fast passages to slow movements is a wonder to behold. The Penguin guide gives this its highest possible rating, the Rough Guide as well. Radio 3 had a one hour special on the scherzi recently and chose Richter, hands down, above every other pianist. After hearing him on that programme I, straight away, ordered this CD. This is the year of Chopin, and this just might make your year...

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely top version of the Chopin Scherzi 24 Dec 2010
By geoff
He was incredibly good, Richter ! These are superb interpretations - no question at all. The scherzi are just superb displays of pianism. Richter's technique allows him to make everything seem possible - and the focus is on the music, not the amazing piano playing. It seems a little odd that there is only a selection of the Preludes, but that was Richter's way. He only played the ones he liked. Fair enough, I suppose...... This is superb playing, and Richter was supposed to be not good in Chopin. Hear this, and you will realise that was nonsense. More, the truth is that Richter was slightly variably - super-humanly brilliant sometimes, and just brilliant others !. Here, he is absolutely top form.

5.0 out of 5 stars Richter and Chopin 9 April 2010
I had never previously associated Richter with Chopin and heard about this cd on Radio 3 "Building a Library" The playing of all four scherzi is superb and I would thoroughly recommend this cd to anyone interested in both Chopin and Richter
