He was incredibly good, Richter ! These are superb interpretations - no question at all. The scherzi are just superb displays of pianism. Richter's technique allows him to make everything seem possible - and the focus is on the music, not the amazing piano playing. It seems a little odd that there is only a selection of the Preludes, but that was Richter's way. He only played the ones he liked. Fair enough, I suppose...... This is superb playing, and Richter was supposed to be not good in Chopin. Hear this, and you will realise that was nonsense. More, the truth is that Richter was slightly variably - super-humanly brilliant sometimes, and just brilliant others !. Here, he is absolutely top form.
