An average book which covers most of the topics required in Actuarial Science for example annuities, discounting and life insurance.

Sadly, this book does not cover the other important section of mathematical finance required in my university for example the pricing of securities, derivatives, arbitrage and martingales.

This is the book which provides examples about long term investments, time value of money, and pensions, but not the commonly sought after "Black-Scholes" book.

I had to buy this book for my degree course; this was the only place I could find it. The book explains very complex financial equations with some ease; it is good because it starts each new topic with a written explanation of the function. As it says on the book, it can be used for a variety of courses and covers many financial problems. From logarithms to discounting and from annuities to depreciation. At the current price it is worth just buying to help you figure out your own financial situations as it covers amortisation! I love and understand my book!

This book is extremely useful, especially during exam time. It has a lot of examples which, if done enough times, you will master the topic. It has an easy approach to helping you understand the topic. I found that the lecturer would not give enough examples to work on and this made me feel that I was lacking a comprehensive understanding. This book solved that problem and once I completed the book, I felt that I had truly mastered the subject. Mathematics/Financial Mathematics are subjects which require practice to fully underhand them and therefore being able to do examples is key to do this.
