You just have to get it, sit down with it, and plod through! I'm learning German at adult education level and my (German) teacher suggested it. If you're methodical, it can work. You really do have to plough through the explanations then complete the questions that follow. It's learning by rote. Nothing fancy, but it does the job.

Very well thought out and useful. It is a fairly compehensive volume. The method of introducing words will be used repeatedly in the texts, and of creating exercises in which to use them, is one which works well. The book works wekk for the independent student and ideally should be used together with its companion volume "Schaum's German Grammar"
I am very glad that I purchased this book.

Good for anyone with a foundation in German grammar 4 Mar 2000
By Michael Jacobs - Published on
Format: Paperback
I used the equivelent of this book in an upper-division Spanish class that I took; I found it truly broadens the vocabulary tremendously. I feel, however, that both of these workbooks, although useful, require a foundation in the syntax of the language for full appreciation of what the authors/editors are trying to do. However, the exercises may be completed without the background.
Especially useful for preparation for travelling and specialized vocabulary (ie. computer, car, etc. etc.)

This book is a great tool for improving one's vocabulary in German. It focusses on specific areas, provides the words for that area, and has some exercises to review the words. A good book to enhance one's learning German, at the intermediate level.

Schaum's Outline of German Vocabulary 31 May 2008
By B. Lynch - Published on
Format: Paperback
A good vocab book if learning German! Easy to learn vocabulary words and simple exercises with answer key. Also divides words into categories (shopping, at the bank, at the airport, etc). Comes with appendix of other vocab words too. It would be best to have the other part of it; the Schaum Outline of German Grammar to go along with, to learn grammar at the same time. Easy to learn workbook for doing german at school or independent studies!
