Good to the last page 11 Jan 2003
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Good to the last page? Especially the last page. Too many books end with an anticlimatic 'by the same author' burblechore, but not this one. The author's note had me in stiches.

Throughout the book, I was delighted by the farcical situations, the lovable, flawed hero and the tight narrative style. If I have one criticism, it would be that Fowler takes aim at a sitting duck, describing primarily the liberal Western faiths. I felt that extremists elsewhere could have been handled more thoroughly. (Still, I wouldn't want to incur a fatwa the way Salman Rushdie did, so I suppose this is understandable.)

Stop thinking about ordering a copy of this book, and just do it. Order this book, and in less time than it takes a carton of milk to go off, you could have a life-changing experience... or at least a very good laugh.

I have a proposal: we should bulk-buy a million or more copies of this book, and distribute it widely. Ideally, in every hotel and motel throughout the world, next to the Gideon bible, there would be a copy of Scepticism, Inc. It might make the world a better place.

Aloha.

Genius 6 Nov 2005

this is one of the best books i have ever read. i would definately recommend the authers other book 'The Astrological Diary of God'. I used to know the author, he was my G.C.S.E english teacher. He was one of my favourite teachers and is the nicest guy you could ever meet. He deserves awards for his work. It was an honour to be tought by him and i can't wait for his next book.

Agnostics R Us 6 Mar 2002
Format:Paperback
Sceptism Inc is essentially a very humourous book on the subject of metaphysics.
Through a wild and farcical plot, Folwer is putting across the point of view that with so many millions of metaphysical assertions going around, surely that very fact invalidates all of them.
The point is "who knows?"
Fowler illustrates fantastically how irrational it is to throw caution to the wind and make bets on metaphysics.
If you are not a sceptic before picking this one up, pretty soon you might be, Fowler obviously feels very strongly about the rationality of scepticism and the madness of insane metaphysical beliefs.
To sum up, this is an excellent read, intelligent, witty, bizarre, thought provoking, persuasive and....makes a very intelligent point.

A great book for a teenager.
This book has one major flaw - BF thought of about 5-6 decent, make-you-smile-rather-than-laugh jokes and repeated them again and again and again throughout the book. Read more

Read Kurt Vonnegut instead
This book is a pastiche of Vonnegut's style - it has the short sentences, repetition of key phrases, insertion of vaguely related facts and so on - without the substance; the one... Read more

Another Crazy Read!
As with the other title that I have read, from this author, the humour in this book can only be discribed as unique. Read more

oh dear me...
This is quite probably the best book every written. That is of course, a ridiculous statement, but such is the inescapable farce the book kicks up around the reader, it seems, for... Read more

Ever thought anything about religion ever? Read this book.
An essential book about religion. More important than the Bible (probably). This is a totally irreverent novel about a sentient shopping trolley, a man who sets up a Metaphysical... Read more

Smart, funny, important!
I completely disagree with the reviews comparing this writer to Vonnegut - this is in a whole new and exciting league. Fowler should be judged by his own merit. Read more

I'm sorry, I was not impressed
I feel guilty for writing a bad review on this book. I wish I could write a good one like most other reviews. Or i wish i wouldn't write one at all. Read more

Irreverent, in a non-offensive way; funny as only humour is!
This book constantly makes me laugh, no matter how many times I read it! All the aspects that this book brings forth, from the human mind, is a revelation of comedy. Read more
