Book Description

Book 1 in the Rutledge Werewolves series

Sophie Briggs threw caution to the wind for one night, and found herself six weeks later staring at a scary line on her positive home pregnancy test. Now the biggest problem she has to face is whether or not to contact the father, a man she hardly knows. He may not know about her and the baby, but she is learning lots about him. Her nightly dreams are hot enough to ignite the bed sheets!

Artemais Rutledge, as Alpha Werewolf for his Pack, had been searching for his True Mate for more years than he cared to think about, and felt certain he had found her that one night with Sophie. His biggest problem is claiming her and making her his for all time.

When Artemais finally catches up with her, the sparks certainly fly, but she isn't as pliable as he believed. All he needs is to marry her and settle her in his house with their baby, explain he's a werewolf, and try to stop his brothers from finding out what a tough time he's having of it all.

He's certain it will be a piece of cake, if he could simply stop wallowing in her scent and get his head (the one on his shoulders) screwed on straight for more than a few seconds at a time.

Sophie Briggs is accidently pregnant following an extremely hot one night stand with Artemais Rutledge. What she doesn't know is that Artemais is a werewolf and her pregnancy proves that she is his one true mate, the only woman who will ever carry his children. Peruaded by Artemais to move into his home for her preganancy, she meets his brothers, William, Dominic and Samuel, handsome men who strangely refer to her unborn child as a cub and their family as a pack. All the men are convinced that she carries a son, Sophie however remains adamant her child is a girl; after all she has met her daughter Christiana in her dreams. All Artemais needs to do now is marry his mate, prepare for the birth of their child and inform Sophie that their firstborn will be an Alpha werewolf and future leader of their pack, but the arrival of a rogue werewolf with a destructive nature threatens the welfare of the entire pack.
Elizabeth Lapthorne again writes a scorcher. This story didn't grab me as much as it's sequel "Hide and Seek"; however it did set the scene for an exciting new werewolf series. EL is fast becoming a favourite of mine, entertaining me with her highly erotic and amusing books. I loved the growing relationship between Sophie and Artemais' brothers and it is they that kick some sense into Artmais following his sadly unromantic marriage proposal. The Rutledge Werewolves books are a great series for fans of shapeshifting/supernatural romantica and I will certainly be keeping an eye out for the stories of Dominic, Samuel and Christiana.

2.0 out of 5 stars so not worth the money 14 Feb. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm really cross with myself for falling into this trap again and buying a book for over three pounds based on the other reviews.
This book was crap.
The characters are lame and I never connected with them through out the whole book, I only finished it because I'd paid so much I couldn't justify not reading the rest.
The most annoying thing is clearly there is no research done into pregnancy to start with, the fact she thinks a fetus would be visable with arms and legs at 6 weeks and the general reaction of the two towards the pregnancy was weak.
You didn't even get to hear any description of the wolf or her meeting his wolf until the very end of the book, hardly werewolf material.
The story line is weak and the brothers characters, which I presume will lead onto her next books left much to be desired.
No thank you for the rest, the only thing this book was good for was a few sex scenes, I don't recommend this unless it's below a pound and you aren't a avid or knowledgeable reader

Sophie Briggs is independant, a workaholic and after one night of passion with an unknown drummer she finds her self pregnant, six weeks later. Of course at the time of her fling she doesn't know that Artemais is a werewolf and that she is his true mate. After the knowledge becomes apparent to Artemais he walks back into her life and... you can see where the rest is headed.

I loved how the relationship between Sophie and Artemais developed throughout the book and often found myself chuckling at the snide remarks made, be that from Artemais' brothers or from Sophie. However I did find that after all of the talk about her work and her independance that Sophie gave in too easily in her decision to move with Artemais but really in the grand scheme of things it's not entirely important. If you want a quick read that will leave you wanting the second book then this book will instantly hook you. Another well crafted book from Elizabeth Lapthorne.

4.0 out of 5 stars A strong, emotional read 24 Dec. 2005
By marymuse - Published on
For one night Sophie Briggs throws caution to the wind and has a one night stand with a handsome drummer. Six weeks later, she's looking at a pregnancy test and knows she has to contact the father. Artemais Rutledge, as Alpha Werewolf for his pack, has been searching for his True Mate for many years. He thinks he's found her in Sophie, and when he learns her news, knows he has for sure. But will she accept his shape changing nature, and can he make her his mate in every way?

Scent of Passion brings a strong, emotional tale to the vast list of werewolf stories. Unlike most were stories, dealing with the change and angst, I found Artemais and his brothers to be refreshingly normal and accepting of their werewolf heritage. Instead, the author brings together two strong individuals and lets the spark collide.

I did think Sophie accepted Artemais' werewolf nature a bit too quickly and without much thought on her own, though an earlier dream foreshadowed this acceptance, and she still proves to be a strong heroine more than capable of matching wits with her werewolf lover. Artemais proves single-minded in his determination to make Sophie his mate, which creates some great scenes between him, his brothers, and even those around town.

One subplot involving another werewolf seemed a bit unnecessary, for while good, the subplot lacked the space necessary to successfully resolve the situation, and added little to the romance. Still, the werewolf's situation paralleled the characters' as well, and I simply wish more time would have been devoted to that character's emotional growth.

Still, this book creates a powerful, emotional read with vibrant, real characters. A very good book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Worth The Time 2 Feb. 2012

Against my better judgement, I read this book all the way to the end. The werewolf story had promise but the erotic elements overwhelmed the entire book. I ended up skipping more of the story than I read since the erotic portion of the story just got boring after a while. Overall the book felt like a creative writing class gone bad!

2.0 out of 5 stars ok for free but don't pay for it 7 Mar. 2012

i am kind of offended that the price of this book is now $6.00. it was one thing to get it for free and be disappointed but to charge that much for something this medocre is terrible. the story was rushed with the beginnings of two other storylines plugged in to hint at future books when the actual story we were on needed more substance to hold its own. i liked the male characters but sophie left a lot to be desired. there were so many things wrong here i can't even list them but another review hit on the majority. buy at your own risk.

3.0 out of 5 stars I was neither impressed nor disgusted 14 May 2009

I stumbled across this series accidentally and decided to try something new. I started reading paranormal romance/urban fantasy this year so I am currently trying to find series that will get me hooked. I assumed this would be one, but it is not. I will not give this book a bad review, I will say only that it wasn't enough to grab me and draw me in. But I think that is due to the fact that I prefer a darker story and more of a conflict. Everything being so easily accepted and devotion given upon first meeting left me wanting more depth. For those who are looking for a light and easy-going story, I would suggest this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Booooo 8 Feb. 2012

I am an avid reader of multiple breed/ werewolves/ etc . First few pages describe her being pregnant and how she met the father, then nothing. No action , no suspense, no animalistic need for her/his mate. Nah, she is like im independent and he is all yay I can have kids. Read only if long rain day.
