Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book follows the story of Jasha Wilder and Ann Smith and their search for an icon that will break a pact that was made with the devil.
I have only ever read 3 shape shifter books and those were by Christine Feehan (Leopard series) and although it is not on par with CF it was a good read.
It started off a little slow but I persisted and have to say I enjoyed it.
The series has 4 books to it (well so far) 1)Scent of Darkness, 2)Touch of Darkness, 3) Into the Shadow and 4) Into the Flame.

I thought this was a pretty good first book to the darkness chosen series. Its about a shapeshifter called Jasha Wilder and the pact his ancestors made with the devil. The series follows the Wilder family's journey to freeing themselves from this pact with the help of russian Icons found by their loves.
I bought this book because I love Christina Dodd's other series "the chosen ones." This book didn't grab me immediately like those did but i liked the concept of darkness chosen and im glad I kept reading. I would recommend scent of darkness purely because as you read on, the series is really good. All 3 books which follow this one are brilliant so its definately a series worth reading.

I wasn't sure what I wanted to get from my first read of a Christina Dodd, but whatever it was I didn't find it in the pages of Scent of Darkness.
The storyline lacks depth and try as I might I couldn't bring myself to care about what happened to the characters. Ann Smith starts out the capable yet shy secretary and doesn't really develop, if anything she takes a step backwards. Jasha Wilder is an okay hero but fails to achieving the commanding sense of power he is built up to have.
Overall I have to say this is not a writer whose work I will continue to follow. While she strives to be a JR Ward or Christine Feehan i'm afraid Christine Dodd falls painfully short with a rudimentary, dull and clumsy tone to her narrative.
