There's always a need for "monster music" compilation, especially when the tracks are compiled from the greatest horror fantasy movies ever made. In the nutshell, that's the rise and fall of this CD.
There are included some of the most famous horror themes like Tubular Bells from the Exorcist, the unforgettable Ghostbusters theme, and so on. But on the other hand - or should I say "on the Other Side" - there are themes from notoriously poor flicks as well. The movies like The attack of the Killer Tomatoes and The Haunting shouldn't even be mentioned amongst the classic motion pictures.
And where are the classic themes from movies like Halloween and Friday the 13th? They should be definitely included instead of B-class scores. As such this compilation is far too scattered to work properly.
Still, this CD has its uses. If you're a fan of Danny Elfman's music (like me) and you don't want to buy the whole soundtracks, this compilation will serve you well.

pretty good halloween party CD featuring a fair few of the classic horror themes, especially great to hear pieces from Danny Elfmann and The Exorcist.

It's a good fun warm-up CD for a halloween party to create a fun horror atmosphere, but found it a little inconsistent qualitywise and the running order/choice of music was not always perfect and so didn't build an effective scary atmosphere - I find the CD 'Raw Fear' much better for actual genuinely scary creepy music which sends those shivers down your spine once the lights go down and the candles are lit in time for ghost stories, Trick Or Treat and Murder In The Dark!

Good memories spoilt 27 Dec 2006
By Pat C. Ames - Published on Amazon.com

The title of the CD is "Scary" but don't be fooled. The only thing frightening is that someone might be suckered by the reputation of the conductor and some fond childhood memories into spending good money for this crud.

While there are a couple of admirable tributes to classic horror theme songs, the cheesy vocals on Addams Family, Ghostbusters, Monster Mash, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Beware of the Blob and Thriller relegate this disc to the trash bin.

Instead of this, I'd recommend Nosferatu (James Bernard), Chiller (Cincinnati Pops), Fantastic Journey (Cincinnati Pops, also - more SciFi than horror, though) and Classics From the Crypt (RCA Victor). All available here.

Nothing scary 6 Aug 2008
By J. Davies - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
So dissappointed in every single track. I was looking forward to 'better than TV' sound quality. Yes, that is about all you get. The arrangements are overblown and goofy, like a stereo cartoon soundtrack. If they had stayed with the orignal arrangements of all the themes this might have been a decent disc. Do not buy this expecting to play it on Halloween.
A Howling Good Time 26 Nov 2013

What a fun program of music perfect for Halloween or any other time Monsters are appropriate. Probably won't listen a lot year round (probably not at all during December), and yet I suspect I'll listen more than just in October.
Scary Music 28 April 2013

Some songs are slightly different than the originals but they are nostalgic and I enjoy listening to them. They would be great at a family Halloween party.
Great compilation 6 Feb 2007

I though I owned all the Halloween music to be found. But this one has some new ones and old ones done differently. I highly recommend it.
