Book Description

The powerful sequel to Sunday Times bestseller Fear of the Collar

Product Description

Leaving his abusive Irish boarding school after eight long years, Patrick Touher thought his troubles were over. But the adult world was a dangerous place for a naïve adolescent. From the Dublin Catholic boys' home to arriving alone in London, again Patrick is seen as easy prey.

Yet Patrick's strength, honesty and sense of humour never left him. The boy they couldn't break fought back and eventually found love and a family. But the shadow of his early years was always with him. With the encouragement of his wife - a constant witness to his traumatic nightmares - Patrick set about taking the Christian Brother to task.

The eagerly awaited sequel to bestseller Fear of the Collar that doesn't disappoint, Scars that Run Deep is a deeply moving and ultimately triumphant true story.

I have known Patrick Touher the author of this book for over 35 years and I never reliased what a terrifying and gruesome life he lived as a young child during his 8 years in this industrial school. The Christian Brothers were a hard lot for children in normal schools but what he encountered was sadistic brutal physical and sexual abuse.
How he ever survived and managed to travel to England to find work and at last a normal life before heading out across the world is a remarkable story. Whoever reads this book will be amazed that he was finally able to leave the past behind to become a good husband, a good dad a good grandad and a good friend. This really is a great story

Still Amazing People 19 May 2011

Pat's first book didn't go into as much detail of the abuse he had to put up with. Scars was even more grabbing than Fear of the Collar. I end up being swollowed up by the rythem of the way Pat uses his words. It is very hard to put the book down just to eat a meal. The numbers are just awfull when you read about how many children are in these type of situations.
