The Fray have the kind of radio friendly rock music that should sell by the ton. In the past, on their first album in particular, this has been the case. However, their music doesn't seem to quite get the attention it used to. Maybe its because it does sound like other things and maybe its because it doesn't stand out enough. Scars and Stories continues that trend. Its good, but not memorable. It lacks the killer single of their first album. And whilst you enjoy it whilst it is on there are no real moments you just want to stick on repeat.
Highlights here include Heartbeat, Munich and The Fighter. These are tracks with the sound of a tight band and some good rhythm. But it doesn't quite catch their previous highlights. Sure its heartfelt but not quite emotive enough.
This album is the sound of a band that is trying to move you and doesn't quite do it. There is enough here to really enjoy, but nothing to totally fall in love with.
