CAUGHT IN A MIDNIGHT TRYST! When Alexander Forthin, Earl of Calvercombe, clashes with Persephone Seaborne it seems not... But a series of mysterious disappearances links their two families, forcing the embittered soldier and the toast of St James into an unlikely alliance- one that starts the gossips' tongues wagging... Especially after they are caught in a secret midnight tryst!

More About the Author

I was born in the English West Country and grew up reading every book I could get my hands on. Everyone who said to me "Oh, you'll never get anywhere if you don't get your head out of a book," proved themselves right, but I'm now very happy to be writing Regency romances for Harlequin Mills and Boon and at least writing has shown me new ways of really getting inside one!

5.0 out of 5 stars A book to get lost in 19 July 2013
By Leonora
Format:Paperback
Can a reclusive and distrustful lord, scarred by betrayal and raised without love, learn to trust a pampered society beauty? This was a captivating story - and one I ended up losing sleep over! When I got to the chapter about the secret midnight tryst I had no choice but to keep reading... A great story!

2.0 out of 5 stars Lots of Talking and Not Much Plot 19 Jun 2014
By Doodler
Format:Paperback
This book plunks you down in the middle of what I presume is a trilogy. I believe it is the follow on to 'The Duchess Hunt'. It certainly keeps referring to things that have happened earlier, which made the reading rather jerky for me. But one can work out the basic plot line, which involves the (for three years now) disappearance of the heroine's older brother and the hero's young ward.

The assumption by everyone is that the brother and ward have gone into hiding because of some evil person with some unknown motive to do some dire something. Can't say that this story moves that ahead much in anyway. It involves the abduction of another brother of the heroine, which the main characters presume is to make them intensify the search for the brother and ward, so that their whereabouts will be revealed to the villain, so he (that much seems clear) can do his worst.

The hero, the scarred earl of the title, is supposed to have been an intelligence officer (where would romance writers of this type be without them), but I can't say that his reasoning or that of the heroine or the lawyer hired by a cousin to help actually strikes one as anything extraordinary. I found the whole mystery rather sparse and dull actually; lots of noise and little substance.

Added to this is the apparent antagonism of the H&H, which, of course, is actually masking their attraction to each other. There are a lot of (very) long conversations between them until they are eventually overcome by their mutual lusty feelings. This kind of behaviour really does enter the realms of fantasy. A passionate kiss or two would have been quite enough to be believably romantic and to get them betrothed. The betrothal is then followed by more long conversations.

4.0 out of 5 stars The second in the Seaborne trilogy 3 Feb 2014
Format:Paperback
This book focuses on Alexander Forthin and Persephone Seaborne, and although a romance, it adds further to the mystery which is the background of 'The Duchess Hunt'.
The two are caught in a midnight tryst, which started out as a secret meeting to help find her kidnapped brother, Alexander is forced to offer marriage to Persephone to save her good name.
I enjoyed reading this and can't wait to start the third Seaborne book.

An interesting and entertaining story but a little short on plot. Some more information about the elder brother would have helped.

I tried to finish this book but I just gave up. All I can say is that this is another author to avoid.
