I bought a number of copies of this book to make up a set for a Year 8 (N. Ireland) class. The youngsters loved the book and we found some great supporting resources on the internet.

Jack is a chimney sweep's boy in Victorian London. He has a kind master and is quite content until his father suddenly appears to claim him. Jack can't understand why his father suddenly wants him back when he sold him three years before. And then mysterious events begin to unfold. A man is murdered and Jack finds himself becoming involved in a hunt for the culprit.
An exciting story with lots of great characters. Especially recommeded for boys (and possibly girls too) of 9+
