Book Description

31 Mar 2001 Love Spell gothic romance: Candleglow

THE BEAST

Strange, twisted carvings and hideous gargoyles adorn the palazzo of the great Scarletti family. But a still more fearful secret lurks within its storm-tossed turrets. For every bride who enters its forbidding walls is doomed to leave in a casket.

THE BRIDE

Mystical and unfettered, Nicoletta has no terror of ancient curses and no fear of marriage . . . until she looks into the dark mesmerising eyes of Don Scarletti. She had sworn no man would command her, had thought her gift of healing set her apart, but his is the right to choose a bride from among his people. And he has chosen her.

THE BARGAIN

Compelled by duty, drawn by desire, she gives her body into his keeping, and prays the powerful, tormented don will be her heart's destiny, and not her soul's demise.

4.0 out of 5 stars A slow start but an exciting climax 23 May 2001
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I started this book with great expectations after reading all the dark series but found it not as compelling as them to start with. It took me a while to get into the book. The story is slow to start with, but it develops into a very exciting climax. I never guessed the culprit and it was a complete surprise to me. I think I have been spoiled for anything else by the Dark Series and it will take a lot to compete with them. I would have given this book 5 stars if it hadn't been for the beginning. I love a book that grips me from the first page and holds me right through to the last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Story 10 April 2001
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Just as good as her Dark Series, this book has a bit of everything in it, Romance, Suspense, Terror. I enjoyed it very much and thought it well worth buying.

This is NOT a Carpathian book and I really don't recommend this one and I adore ALL her other books. It's bland, the heroine is wishy-washy and the hero and his odd and unappealing family just put the tin lid on it for me. I never finished it and lent it to a friend who didn't either. If you're desperate for more and have read all the others try the short story in After Twilight that's nice.

The story starts of with the unatural powers of the 2 main characters. Who dsespite their misgivings get married, and face an enemy who is brutal and very close to them. I don't wish to give the story!!!! I am a big fan of Christine feehan, and was dissapointed by this book. While the story was good, however it's not a gothic. It's more in the style of the Dark serious, but without the glamour and the supernatural events of the carpathians.

I read this book during a recent illness in one sitting. I immediately re-read it! The chemistry between Nicollette and Giovanni is sizziling as is the suspense of the story that has its final twist at the end. I did not see it coming. If readers enjoyed Ms Feehan's Dark Series that will enjoy this although it is not about Carpathians. The suspense and sense of intrigue and magic is maintained. All together an excellent read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing! 14 Mar 2001
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I am an ardent fan of Ms Feehans, and consider her Dark series extremely compelling, wonderful reading. I was therefore extremely disappointed when I read this latest novel. It is written in the gothic style, but unlike the nineteenth century versions of the style, it does not thrill or send icy tingles down one's back. The romance element is tepid - there is no real chemistry between the two main characters. The plot is ponderous, and I had real difficulty actually finishing the book. Miss Feehan please please please go back to your Carpathian novels - these are truely wonderful and original and I cannot wait to read the next one. I firmly believe that every author has to have at least one duff book. Now that this one is behind her lets hope Ms Feehan moves on to more of her exciting, sizzling and sexy Carpathian novels.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed 11 Feb 2002
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I am sorry to say that I was very disappointed with this book. I have, up until now, been a fan of Christine Feehan, especially here 'Dark series'. Her books are usually well written and the characters engaging but the Scarletti Curse feels disjointed and you don't really have an opportunity to get to know the characters especially the hero. The story line is disjointed and doesn't flow easily and their are far too many Italian words thrown in which leaves you feeling that Ms Feehan is trying to cover up this awkward story. For the first time ever it took me two weeks to finish a Christine Feehan book, and at one point I was tempted to give up. There are a lot of good ideas in the story but they are under developed leaving the plot and the characters two dimensional. And as for the twist at the end...if you still care half way through the book I have obviously missed something. By no means let this put you off reading any of her other books, which are excellent, this just proves that everyone has their off days.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best one! 28 July 2003
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This was the first C.Feehan book that i read and i was not dissapointed! i loved the characters,Nicoletta has an endearing innocence about her yet is still a very strong and likable character, not soppy at all. And Giovanni! he was the stuff of dreams!
I enjoyed this book so much that i went and ordered some of her DARK series and i have to say i was sadly disapointed. I have read up to number five in the series only because i wanted to read Gregories story, and because i was hopeing that they'de get better. I'm ashamed to say that for me, they didnt. the female characters were just to similar- all toooo independent, all toooo resistant. I dont want to put anyone off buying any of C.Feehans books because she is a great storyteller and i am only one oppinion! But i just wish that more of her books could have followed the brilliance of this story.
