Product Description
PLOT SUMMARY: Atlanta, 1873. It's another day (Melanie's funeral, in fact), and Scarlett is determined to win back Rhett (who's spending a lot of time with Belle Watling). First, she goes to Tara and spats with Sue Ellen over Tara. Then she goes to Charleston, presenting herself to Rhett's mother and friends, to Rhett's dismay. But when she's caught in a compromising position with Ashely, she retires to her mother's people in Savannah, and her overbearing grandfather Robelard, while Rhett courts a new bride. Scarlett also seeks out her O'Hara relatives and meets her cousin Colum, a priest (and gunrunner). And knowing them, she goes to Ireland. There she meets the handsome Earl of Fenton, who owns Ballyhara, the ancestral home of the O'Haras. And when Scarlett buys it from him, she becomes the financial and spiritual head of the family. But her newfound happiness is short-lived as disasters strike, and she must rely on Rhett's love for her to save her from the gallows. (written by Kathy Li} ABOUT THE DVD: This is a double disc release of the 1994 television mini-series 'Scarlett' (a sequel to Margaret Mitchell's 'Gone With The Wind', though 'Scarlett' is based on the novel written by Alexandra Ripley) for the NETHERLANDS market. The text on the rear of the packaging is in Dutch. It is Region 2 PAL format exactly the same as UK DVDs, so will play on all standard players in this country. The picture is full screen (4:3 ratio), audio is the original English, but the only subtitles available on the discs are Dutch (with an optional off or on - but no English subtitles!). There's scene selection menus on both discs, a feature on the search for Scarlett on the first disc with a 'making of' documentary on the second.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost as Good as 'Gone with the Wind'!, 5 Sep 2008
By Valeria Pugiotto - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I enjoyed 'Scarlett' a lot, even though it is indeed very different from 'Gone with the Wind'. Mainly because of the actors. I think Timothy Dalton is perfect as Rhett Butler, but the actress playing Scarlett is not quite as good as Vivien Leigh. She does not have her charme and charisma!
The plot is a bit involute, and a bit cliche, but I liked it nonetheless.

3.0 out of 5 stars scarlett, 4 Dec 2008
It was many years ago now that i watched Scarlett after reading the book. Of course the books are always better than the films but never the less its a film that follows a great epic and must be seen to Finnish the story of Scarlett and Rhett. I personally liked the book better as it was more in detail but the film covered the plot well. If you have seen gone with the wind then this film is a must for fans as it sees Scarlett and Rhett reunited once more. Scarlett is not made with the same outstanding performances and looks as though it cost a lot less than Gone with the wind. I enjoyed the film but not with the same emotional feelings as the first but still a must to see, to make closure to this great saga.

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining sequel, 22 Jun 2009
By Beth C (Berks) - See all my reviews
I read the book Scarlett just after I read Gone with the Wind and was desperate to see the DVD. This was really entertaining and nice to see the second part of the story as Gone with the Wind feels too unfinished.

However, the last episode of the DVD does not match the book, in fact it is wildly different. In the book Scarlett is turned on by her Irish villagers and Rhett races to her after finding out she is engaged to Lord Fenton, where he tells her he loves her, she introduces him to his child and they escape Ireland together. In the DVD Scarlett is accused of murdering Lord Fenton and stands trial in London, where Rhett comes to assist her and she tells him of his child. He finds the woman responsible for Lord Fenton's murder and he and Scarlett are re-united.

I have no idea why they changed the book as this was quite confusing and in my opinion the book version was more believable and romantic.

None the less this is still a nice ending to the story and satisfying.
