If you learnt a bit of French at school but think you have forgotten it, Learn French Beginner will quickly bring it back. The software concentrates on the spoken language, but gives you plenty of opportunity to practise reading and the option of additional written exercises.
If you learnt a bit of French at school but think you have forgotten it, Learn French Beginner will quickly bring it back. The software concentrates on the spoken language, but gives you plenty of opportunity to practise reading and the option of additional written exercises.
The main teaching is done though a series of photographs of situations, combined with spoken questions, which also appear written on the screen. You are then given a choice of answers. Click on any part of the dialogue and you can here the phrase spoken, get a translation, or, a special feature of the software, see the sound pattern of the spoken words and then test your pronunciation by seeing how well the sound pattern of your words matches the original. Note that for this you need a microphone for your computer. Since you can set your own level of difficulty and accuracy, you always remain in control of how hard you work. --Julia Cresswell
