Review

"The text is all fury, akin to taking a James Bond film, cutting out everything but the action and running that at double speed. As much video game as novel. Reilly's admirers will love this one, and anyone interested in the outer limit of action writing should check it out."--"Publishers Weekly"
"James Bond and Dirk Pitt can step aside-a new action hero has arrived to take their place in Reilly's latest roller-coaster ride. This thrill fest is highly recommended for all fiction collections-even the most jaded readers will need to fasten their seatbelts and hang on for dear life."--"Booklist"
""Scarecrow" should come with a blood pressure cuff shrink-wrapped to it. Nonstop action, adventure, and a HUGE surprise for fans of Reilly's other Schofield novels-what more could you ask for from a novel? You'll give up television forever after reading "Scarecrow,""--Bookreporter.com
"Lightning-paced."--"Entertainment Weekly"
"Move over, Jack Ryan and Dirk Pitt-Marine Shane "Scarecrow" Schofield is the next great action hero. Matthew Reilly's well-developed characters and nonstop action more than compensate for an implausible plot."--"Dallas Morning News"
"The pace is breakneck... will hook you right from the start."--"Waterstone's Books Quarterly "(UK)
"This is unashamedly ball-busting reading... it certainly clears the palette."--"Arena" (UK)
"Here's pace, jargon, diagrams, gadgets and guns to get excited about... "Scarecrow" is breathless."--"Mirror" (UK)

Let me make this brief.
I once read a review many moons ago covering a movie starring Kurt Russell called Stargate. In this review the individual reviewing claimed that there were some serious inaccuracies with the egyptology in the movie.
What the reviewer failed to mention was that this pyramid was on a planet called abidos.
I see the same thing here with some of the reviews of Matthew Rielly.
THIS IS FICTION.
And thank goodness, it is nice to escape somewhere else for the duration of these novels and they certainly deliver the goods as thrillers.

By J. Chippindale TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
Matthew Reilly was born in Sydney in 1974. He studied Law at the University of New South Wales. He has written both screenplays and magazine articles. His second and third novels, Ice Station and Temple, became No. 1 bestsellers in his native Australia, and went on to enjoy huge success internationally. The author lives in Sydney.

This book, first published in 2003, is the third book in the Shane Schofield series, following Ice Station (1998) and Area 7 (2001). Captain Shane Schofield, call-sign Scarecrow, has been put on a hit list by an unknown consortium and he has got his hands full just trying to stay alive. All the so-called bounty hunters in the area are after nailing his skin to the wall. At the same time he is attempting to track down the members of a conspiracy that could annihilate some of the world's major cities. It all adds up to being one of Reilly's best books to date.

Reilly's books are full of blood and thunder. Full of the latest weapons technology and people who know how to use them. People who are prepared to run through a brick wall if necessary to achieve their ends. Some of the things that happen in his books have the reader questioning where reality ends and fantasy takes over but it doesn't really matter, just go along for the ride and enjoy the action, there's plenty of it.

Breathless!! 30 Mar 2006

Format:Paperback
Scarecrow is a great read if you like action and adventure stories. The plot twists and turns and the action sequences seem never ending, and leave you breathless. It would make a great movie except you would leave the theatre exhausted!

High Octane Ride around the World!
Having read all of M. Reilly's books so far, I didn't think he'd hold his promise of making a faster-paced book than he previously has done. But I was wrong. Read more

One of my top 20!

Not For Me
I only got halfway through this and then had to give up. The guy is clearly a talented writer on some level but, for me, this is a boys book. It's WAY too macho. Read more
