Product Description

A thrilling, nerve-jangling experience from beginning to end, Scar combines the gruesome suspense of classic horror, with the glossy viscera of modern cinema. Jane Burrows (Angela Bettis) bears a permanent scar on her cheek, and on her memory. Whilst visiting her brother for her niece’s graduation, the woman is violently put face to face with her grievous past. We discover that at sixteen, Jane and her best friend were abducted by a sadistic serial killer named Bishop. After having bore horrific torture, Jane managed to free herself from her prosecutor by killing him. Unfortunately though, her friend did not survive the unmentionable suffering. Now that she is back in the small town of her teenage years, Jane is thrown back into the nightmare, when a copycat criminal starts kidnapping local young girls, her niece included. Is Bishop really dead or is someone emulating him, and why?

Product Description

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), English ( Dolby Digital 5.1 ), English ( Subtitles ), WIDESCREEN (1.78:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Anamorphic Widescreen, Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: In the small Colorado town of Ovid, the story of Ernie Bishop, the local undertaker, has become a scar on the community, never to be removed. Sixteen years ago, the terrifying legend began, and the town has never recovered. Ernie Bishop stashed teenage prisoners in the basement of his morgue, keeping them tied up in cabinets meant for dead bodies. He cut, scarred, and tortured his unsuspecting victims and then showed them the damage to their own bodies with a small mirror. One of Bishop's victims, Joan Burrows, sixteen, cut herself free from her bondage and killed Bishop with an embalming fibulator, thus ending this reign of terror and becoming a local hero. Joan left town after this incident and as the film opens, is returning to Ovid for the first time in 16 years to see her niece, Olympia, be crowned Prom Queen. As she arrives, strange murders take place within this already battered town. Teenagers - specifically Olympia's friends - are being abducted and gory 'clues' are being left behind. At first, Joan fears that Bishop has come back - and, as a result, worries that she's losing her mind. But when Olympia goes missing, Joan starts to go after the killer on her own. After a few too many coincidences, the cops target Joan as their prime suspect and incarcerate her. Joan is able to break out of jail for one last attempt to save Olympia. ...Scar

4.0 out of 5 stars GENERIC BUT ENTERTAINING 16 Nov 2010
Format:DVD
If you're looking for something original look elsewhere, but if you're just looking for a basic slasher / torture horror movie with some decent suspense, a few good & bloody kills and the obligatory twist ending you could do a lot worse than this one.

Two girls are invited into a funeral home by a charming guy who has twisted plans for them. He chloroforms one girl and then tracks down and captures her friend as well, subjecting them to a grueling torture scene that forces one of them to choose if the other dies. This all happens within the first half hour and sets the stage for the sickness that follows. At times there are slow moments in the middle section of the movie but I never thought it was boring. It picks up nicely in the last half hour with a stunning twist and suspenseful climax involving 3 girls tied up in a basement repeating the twisted 'choice' torment of the first scene.

It's not very original but is a decent generic slasher / torture horror flick that isn't nearly as bad as some would have you believe.

3.0 out of 5 stars WOULD YOU KILL A FRIEND TO SAVE YOURSELF? 23 Jun 2013
By The Movie Guy TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
Joan Burrows (Angela Bettis looking like a roughed up version of Christina Ricci) returns to her home town of Ovid for a reunion with family. She is haunted by past memories (and a facial scar), about a weird slasher named Bishop (Ben Cotton) who killed her friend as well as giving her a scar. The flashbacks are used to make comparisons with Bishop, the killer, and somewhat creepy kid named Paul (Devon Graye) who is a friend of her niece Olympia (Kirby Bliss Blanton). Paul's dad (James D. Hopkin) is a bit of a psycho from being in Iraq.

Meanwhile teens have a graduation party. Drinking, pot smoking, and a girl(thank you Kristin Kowalski) who strips down to her panties and says, "Howard! Come here and take my virginity. I'm not graduating with it!"

As in any good teen slasher movie, kids by the lake who want to have sex... The body count rises, but we don't get to see the killer, nor the kids being tortured. Instead we get flashbacks to the Burrows/Bishop torture. Don't worry, if you missed Joan Burrows getting her face cut, they show it again. The theme of the murders is "would you kill a friend to save yourself." However the movie rarely delves into that theme, rather it just shows us dead bodies.

The film culminates in a far too predictable poorly written ending.

2.0 out of 5 stars bloody awful 6 May 2013
Format:DVD
2d/3d it doesnt matter.this film is bloody awful.poor screenplay and dodgy directing.yes the acting was ok and the special make up effects are decent enough but it still doesnt make up for the film being as bad as it is.it could of had potential if had someone like leigh whannell (saw/insidious)had done the screenplay.ok the film is watchable but poorly put together.overall very disappointing horror but very bloody in parts

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected 17 April 2013
Format:DVD
I was pleasantly surprised by this film. I expected another ridiculous `torture porn' film, but this has more of a teen slasher flick about it. likable well acted characters and good direction made this have a `nightmare on elm street' feel about it. Some good gore moments as well. I particularly liked a tongue getting cut out and a woman hacking off her own thumb.
