AN OVERLOOKED TALENT 18 May 2001
Format:Audio CD
Thomas Lang where are you? This guy has got so much talent - yeah, what a voice! It's a shame he never got the breaks - he deserved to be a huge star. This collection is full of classics. Considering the poor state of the UK music industry, somebody needs to discover were Mr.Lang is, and give him another chance. Forget your indie shoe starers and Beatles riff-offs - this is contemporary UK songwriting talent.

By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Thomas Lang a.k.a Tom Jones (yes it's true) has the sort of voice and vocal styling that sets him apart from most of his contemporaries. Lyrically his songs are dark and haunting, mini dramas played out in the hallways and bus shelters of suburban Britain. 'Happy man' and 'Injury' ooze texture, smell of cappuccino and musty leather books gathering dust in a smoke filled Paris café on a rainy autumn day.

The musicianship on the album is matched only by the superb production. The sound is rich and warm, though fragile and loose. The suggestion is one of turmoil and angst, each song examines and redefines the loss of love and alienation in a cityscape strewn with emotional wrecks. - Buy this and you'll why hadn't done it sooner

FORGOTTEN STAR? 6 May 2001
By Woolly
Format:Audio CD
I FIRST DISCOVERED THOMAS LANG HAVING HEARD THE HAPPY MAN AND HEARING SCALLYWAG JAZ FROM MY SISTER STUDYING IN LIVERPOOL. WHEN I ALSO WENT TO LIVERPOOL TO STUDY HE BECAME A FIRM FAVOURITE AND ALWAYS ONE TO SEE LIVE.HIS MUSIC COVERS A RANGE OF STYLES BUT WITHIN ALL OF IT IS A DEPTH OF EMOTION NOT IMMEDIATELY APPARENT FROM THE SIMPLE MELODIES. HOWEVER IT IS THAT SIMPLICITY AND LACK OF CLUTTER THAT MAKES LANG SO REFRESHING AND EVEN THOUGH THE MUSIC ON THIS ALBUM IS LIMITED TO HIS EARLY SONY DAYS (BEFORE HE SET UP HIS OWN LABEL) IT WILL RESONATE IN PEOPLES EMOTIONS. THOMAS LANG HAS THE KNACK OF FINDING THE WORDS TO ENCAPSULATE EMOTIONS. THE HAPPY MAN IS PERHAPS THE MOST UP TEMPO AND AT TIMES EVEN LANG CAN BECOME TURGID BUT THERE IS ENOUGH BALANCE HERE TO SATISFY FIRST TIMERS AND DIE HARD FANS ALIKE. IT ALWAYS SHOCKS ME HOW THOMAS LANG HAS NOT BEEN MORE POPULAR AND THIS ALBUM WILL GO SOME WAY TO SHOWING YOU WHY. IF YOU WANT THE MORE COMPLETE PICTURE BUY HIS "OUTSIDE OVER THERE" ALBUM WHICH INCLUDES THE CLASSIC "FEELS SO RIGHT". WHEN YOU PLAY THIS ALBUM PREPARE TO BE MOVED!
