Product Description

Book Description

A true account of four children aged three to eight and traumatic mistreatment endured by them over a ten-year period (1956-1966)

Product Description

Say Nothing is the moving true story of four neglected siblings who were taken into care following the breakdown of their parents' marriage. Sent to a small croft in the north-east of Scotland, they endured an onslaught of physical and mental abuse at the hands of an elderly, inexperienced foster mother.

For ten years the children's cries for help were ignored and misunderstood in the naive social-work climate of the late 1950s, and this heartbreaking personal account of cruelty and neglect reveals the effect this maltreatment had on their ability to adjust to a normal adult life.

Say Nothing was written as a voice of support for all abused children who are afraid or were never given the chance to tell their story.

Shocking! 11 Feb 2012
By Reader
Format:Paperback
This book is indeed 'Harrowing' it is unbelievable what these poor kids went through. Sometimes I had to sit and just remember how old they were and the tasks they were made to perform!! I look at my own children and wonder how they would cope in this situation, I cannot imagine it! (I know that even I as an adult would struggle!) It is shocking that no-one actually assessed 'Auntie' their foster mother. Did she have had mental issues or was just plain 'evil'? I thank the author for having the courage to face her demons and put this on paper. This was a great, although disturbing read, which the author has even tried to make light of some of the 'situations' by adding the 'funny side' of things which make you smile, but only for a short while. I would recommend to everyone to read this book, it makes YOU the reader put things in perspective about your own life and you cannot but want to question 'why' was this allowed to happen! This must have been extremely emotional to re-live when writing, thank you for sharing what can only be described as 'your and your siblings hell'. Good luck to you all, may the rest of your lives be filled with only happy memories.

This read had me in tears, small children sent to a so-called Auntie.Treated worse than little slaves by this evil old woman.Children that had to work a farm like land, beaten, unfed and unloved. The only comfort of having a sister and two brothers with the writer as the years passed.Small children whom made the most of this terrible life.Let down by so-called parents and social workers.Read this book.
