Amazon.co.uk Review

If there is one Hollywood team that you can always rely on to push back the boundaries of taste it’s the Farrelly brothers. Say It Isn’t So is only produced by the pair but owes more than a passing sniff to their brand of comedy of misfortune. Animal rescue worker Gilly (played with extreme Keanu-ness by affable Chris Klein) falls head over heals for the worst hairdresser in existence (Heather Graham). Their whirlwind romance culminates in engagement and consummation and that’s when it all goes wrong. You see Gilly is adopted and it turns out that his real parents may be none other than his potential in-laws.

The plot is wafer thin at best with the majority of the action derived from Gilly’s cringe-worthy and harebrained schemes to prove to Graham that they aren’t related, which of course just end up convincing her even more that theirs is a forbidden love. Along the way, there is a cast of misfits and comedy clichés for Gilly to contend with including the legless pilot sidekick, Graham’s smarmy millionaire fiancé and his redneck brother. There are few laugh-out-loud moments, as the script pretty much begins and ends with the idea that the more Gilly tries to clear things up, the more mess ensues. Both leads appear slightly dazed, as if trying to fathom out what made them sign on the dotted line, and the direction lurches from one gross-out moment to the next. There are some redeeming features: the ending is suitably uplifting and there’s a lot of fun to be had in anticipating what misfortune will strike the hapless Gilly next, but in the end this is one "Farrelly" movie which pushes cow abuse too far.--Kristen Bowditch

5.0 out of 5 stars A Supremely Funny "Gross-Out" Comedy, 15 April 2003
It's not often I write a review on Amazon, but in this case I feel compelled to, as the Amazon review doesn't really do the film justice.

Yes the plot IS wafer thin, but it's a comedy, so since when did that matter? What this film does have is some of the most original jokes around. It has some absolutely classic lines, most of which you'll have to see in the film to appreciate.

The main cast do a decent enough job, Kline always seems to come across as one of those people you just have to like, which is perfect for his role in this film. Graham does a good enough job, and Orlando is absolutely awesome.

This film came and went without causing so much as a ripple, but if you enjoyed films such as American Pie, Scary Movie and the like, you simply have to watch this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Funny Film, 29 Oct 2004
By A Customer
If you're looking to buy a film that will make you laugh so much that it hurts, this is the film to go for. At the beginning of the film, Chris Klein and Heather Graham are having a relationship, only to find out that they are brother and sister. She leaves the city and he finds out that she is planning her wedding to a drug-dealing millionnaire. When Chris Klein finds out that they are NOT actually brother and sister, he tries to track her down to tell her the good news and win her back, with a lot of unfortunate but funny scenes for him on the way. This is definitely a must-see film.

Chris Klein has intimate relations and falls in love with the most beautiful girl in town and finds out something rather shocking about her and has to leave town. This whole film is shocking and if their is something that most people don't like being discussed or made fun of, then that happens. Not recommended if you are under 15 years of age.
