Format:Audio CD
I bought this CD with no great expectations, but upon playing it I found it to be amongst the top five Northern Soul compilations in my collection (and believe me I have a few discs). Of course there are a couple of standards from Willie Mitchell, and what else would you expect from the "Hi" label, get over another from Charlie Rich and the remainder are genuinely difficult to find tracks (perhaps as Mississippi is not the natural home of Northern Soul). After years of collecting I often find that rare tracks are rare because quite frankly they're rubbish. However that is not the case here. After falling on my bum too many times in buying rare soul compilations, I can honestly say that this is worth all of the money.
Format:Audio CD
It's a Southern Soul Compilation, and therefore should be a `must have', for any lovers of that genre, of Soul's myriad styles, of production. In addition, any compilation that has Willie Mitchell's `The Champ', is worth having, if only for that signature tune of Northern Soul (in my opinion). Charlie Rich is also here, and Don Bryant makes a fleeting appearance; this compilation also covers quite a wide range of production styles, over a number of years; a fine tribute to the Hi label.
