One of the best things about this book for me was discovering that I am insulin-resistant and that this condition predisposes me to type 2 diabetes and heart disease. In the book there is an insulin-resistance questionnaire to fill in which makes it abundantly clear whether you are or are not. Apparently 25% of British people are thought to have this condition and it can be sorted out in 3 months, by correct diet.
It is also interesting that half of those with high blood pressure are insulin-resistant without even knowing it. I had actually bought this book as my husband has borderline high blood pressure and I wondered if there was information that would help him, little realising it would help me also. Having read it, I now think we are both insulin-resistant and am adjusting our diets accordingly.
There are also other interesting snippets, such as the fact that too much sugar depletes the mineral magnesium and by increasing magnesium (such as through eating sunflower seeds and almonds) blood pressure can be lowered.
It is wonderful to think that heart disease is generally preventable and even reversible if the guidelines are followed. Try it!
