I love horror movies. However I have been a bit disillusioned of late, as most contemporary horrors seem to be all about hack-and-slash, with little storyline really. The 'Saw' films are just so brilliant. They are suspenseful, and yes, violent and gory, but they are a far cry from those ten-a-penny high school kids lost in the woods and picked off by a psycho type movies. The story that runs through all the films is great, and the plot is twisty-turny and keeps you on your toes. Even when you think you have it figured out, you'll probably be wrong. And I love that in a film! The 'games' that Jigsaw dreams up and inflicts on his victims are in some ways supposed be a bizarre form of justice for what Jigsaw thinks are their 'crimes'. I even found myself empathising with why he felt it necessary to do the things he did. Can't say I ever felt that way about Freddy Krueger - and this box set of Saw 1 to 5 gets my wholehearted approval and 5 big shiny stars!
