Saw 3D is the supposed final chapter in the long running series. As a big fan of the other six Saw movies, I went to see this with an open mind, trying to ignore the all the bad reviews. But I must say that now I've seen it and read the reviews, I have to agree with the critics to some extent.
The good: It does tie up a lot of loose ends and some of the open ended scenes from the previous films were explained. The ending is fairly good, although I did see what was coming about an hour before it actually happened. The traps are again very impressive and really did make me cringe on a number of occasions. It was good to see some of the survivors of the previous film make a brief appearance.
The bad: The acting and script are both pretty poor, especially from the new characters in the series. The ending is left open on a cliffhanger once again, which doesn't make any sense as this is supposed to be the final Saw. If you are watching this is 3D, there really isn't any point as it is really wasted on the format - when I see this again on DVD or Blu Ray, I will happily watch it in 2D. Jigsaw (John Kramer) is only in it for a minute or two at the most.
It isn't quite the disaster the critics have made it out to be but it isn't that great either. Personally I think it is easily the weakest in the series but is one that I had to see just to finish it all off. If they do happen to make a "Saw 8" then I very much doubt I'll go and see it as this series has passed its expiry date now.
2.5 Stars.
