Having seen the film on numerous occasions and enjoyed it each and everytime,I thought that I would try the book,I doubted that it could be as good as the film and I was completely wrong it is brilliant. My 19 year old son told me he had read it whilst at school and he said it was a great read, there are one or two differences between the film and the book but it in no way spoils it,any fan of the film should try to get hold of a copy of the book and try it.

I won't explain the actual story, because most people out there already know the story ( A Squad of U.S. Marines sent deep behind enemy lines to find and bring back home to America a Private named Ryan, because all three of his brothers were killed in action, and they know Ryan's mother would be devastated if she loses all four of her sons.)
Saving Private Ryan is a brilliant read and is basically like the film, but with more action sequences and more details in the battles and the events in the book.
Very exciting all the way through and people who loved the film will definately love this! Thanks for reading the Review!
(P.S. if you like action and adventure books, you'll love Ice Station by Matthew Reilly, i have written a review on it, if you wanna take the time to read it, that would be cool!)

This is a well written book which follows the well set out story as told by Steven Spielberg.
As a piece of writing it is exceedingly good, the problem lies in the characters, none are fleshed out, details of age and where they are from is not enough, to care about characters you have to KNOW them, therefore no-one cares about what happens to these guys, they are all very two dimensional.
However the technical detail, the impact of battle cannot be faulted, but by the end I just wondered if I cared, I didn't!
If you want to have a written version of the film OK, if you want a good book... I'd recommend you saved your money and rented the film.

I haven't seen the film yet, but this book says it all really. You couldn't help not liking a couple of the characters but then you remember what position they're in and it makes you understand why they act the way they do. This is the first "war" novel I've read and it certaintly won't be the last.
