4 Stars

The Saved Saint is a well written book. Based on a true story we hear from the perspective of various characters about their own spiritual journeys. Harley and Simon are friends, both have strong religious beliefs but belong to different denominations, Harley belonging to the Latter day Saints and Simon a born again Christian. After retuning from spending two years as a missionary abroad, Harley shocks his family by questioning the `Mormon teachings' he as always been faithful to and begins spending time with the born again Christians.

Personally I am not a big fan of religious based stories. I find them very preachy and controversial. I am an atheist and I constantly hear myself groaning as I become more and more frustrated with what I am reading, especially when I read about one religious group belittling another. They all profess to love and respect, yet they have no tolerance for each others differing beliefs. Why the 4 stars? Well as I said the book is well written, it is well edited and even though I didn't enjoy the read I know there is a market out there for this book.

This book ought to be read by: any Latter Day Saint with (other)Christian Friends; any (other) Christian with Latter Day Saint friends; anyone who wonders what it might feel like to be a Latter day Saint or (other) Christian but hasn't been able to ask! The characters explain their spiritual journeys, and you get taken on a part of their journey, as they narrate in turn. Some of the characters put me in mind of the Screwtape Letters. If you haven't got anywhere else to be on a Sunday morning, leaning back on some pillows with a cuppa in one hand and this on your kindle would be a worthwhile pursuit.

What I love best about the book is whether or not you care about what happens to the characters. This book has you caring from the start. The characters are so well rounded you feel that you could meet them walking down the street.

I found this book hard to put down as I walked with Harley on his journey of discovery and understanding about his faith and way of life. Hearing from the other members of Harley's family about how his decisions were impacting on them made the story all the more real and the characters believable. The Saved Saint left me thinking about all the characters long after I had finished reading.

I actually enjoyed this book more than I thought I would, it gave good insight to the two different types of faith. I liked the Characters and I enjoyed reading the story from Harley's perspective and his Mothers. Overall... Good read.

This book is about the love of a mother for her son, and her son's new found love for Jesus. The plea for interfaith tolerance and understanding shines through every chapter. As a mother, I found this to be an emotional read made even more powerful by the fact that it is based on a true story.
