Savage Eden

A time between Ice Ages.

Golau, a Cro-Magnon hunter gatherer, is pulled from a freezing lake and nursed back to health by a group of wandering Neanderthal. Miles away, his clan’s peaceful existence is torn apart by an attack from an unknown predatory species and many are taken beyond the ice wall as prey.

Golau and some of the remaining men set out in pursuit and are joined by a pod of Neanderthal, seeking answers of their own.

During the quest, the two species are forced to forget their differences and work together despite some uncomfortable truths being revealed.

Back in the Clan, those left behind are forced to change their ways very quickly if they are going to survive the oncoming winter and a young feisty girl with strange ideas leads them down a path completely alien to what they have always done before.

Beyond the ice wall, the horrifying truth about the third species is finally uncovered and answers revealed that affect both hunter and Neanderthal alike resulting in a bloody confrontation, the outcome of which has the potential to affect the very future of humanity.

5.0 out of 5 stars surprising 24 Nov 2011

There is no way that i would have ever thought i would enjoy a book about caveman, but somehow i did, this again is another really well written book that keeps your interest and makes you feel completely involved with the story, the only reason i haven't reviewed this book sooner is because i was so wrapped up in wanting to read the authors next title as i had enjoyed this one so much, it's very rare for me that i find a book, enjoy it and then enjoy the other books by the same author but we've these titles i have really enjoyed each one and can't wait for more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story telling 2 April 2012

I have to say I found this book to be a vivid and colourful story. The author is obviously a very good wordsmith and knows how to create a page turner. I guess some might gripe at the use of more modern language but I assume the author used that to keep the pace of the story up, so I found I could easily overlook this. I do sincerely hope there is a follow up to this book as there are a lot of characters that could be further developed I believe.

This is not a typical Kevin Ashman book. I was surprised to find it about Neanderthals. It is a thoroughly good read.

I've read all his books and this one caught me completely off guard. This was harder to put down than any of his others. The tempo and excitement were great and the characters were well thought out and a joy to follow. I highly suggest reading this on a cold winters day...under a warm blanket!

. . . Well written and constantly moving. Characters you can warm to, although a little too good to be true. Gory but in a good way; a great book about a very savage early period - a thoroughly good read.
