Product Description

Synopsis

In 1916, Berenger Sauniere, the enigmatic priest of the French village of Rennes-le-Chateau, created his ultimate clue: he went to great expense to create a model of a region said to be the Calvary Mount, indicating the 'Tomb of Jesus'. But the region on the model does not resemble the actual lay-out of Jerusalem. Did Sauniere leave a clue as to the true location of his treasure? And what is that treasure? After years of research, Andre Douzet discovered this model, never collected from the model maker by Sauniere, who had died just before the model's completion. Backed by evidence showing correspondence between Sauniere and the model maker, Douzet also reveals much new evidence, including the revelation that Sauniere spent large amounts of time and money in the city of Lyons, often on exotic and high tech photographic instruments. And for the first time, it is shown Sauniere met some very interesting people from esoteric, in particular Martinist, circles in Lyons. This body of evidence for the first time demonstrates there is indeed a true mystery surrounding this village priest -- a theory widely speculated on so far by others authors, but seldom if ever backed by evidence. The model is the only real clue Sauniere left behind as to the nature and location of his treasure -- and is unveiled in this book, which includes pictures and detailed drawings of the model, among many other things. It also reveals the location of the region where Sauniere had located his treasure...and where Douzet himself has so far recovered large quantities of precious and semi-precious materials. Above all, Douzet demonstrates that grounds of Perillos not so much hold a 'treasure' (though present), but rather a 'secret', and that this secret was the true importance of Sauniere's mystery; a secret that is said to be of vital importance -- and terrifying force.

I was very disapointed when I read this book. The generel impression is that the author talks a lot, and has a lot of knowledge, but he doesn't know how to make conclusions.
The main problems are :

1 : While more than half the book is about the village end its sorroundings, there are no map of the area!!! It is almost impossible to follow the author without this map.

2 : The first 70% of the book is almost wasted with a lot of talk that's going nowhere. The model mentioned in the titel only occupies the last 30 pages of the book. That's a real shame, seing that this is where the author has superior knowledge.

Conclusion(!!!) : If you know almost everything about Rennes-le-Chateau, then this could be worth it, as it has specialist knowledge. Otherwise this it not worth the money, as there is no mention of the "real" mystique about Rennes-le-Chateau.

Good informative read, another slant on the Rennes le Chateau mysteries, much has been written about the
Priest who became instantly wealthy, what was his secret? This book is based on hard evidence, well written
but it fails to hit the spot with an answer, well worth a read but don't expect an answer.

Not a good book 14 Nov 2005
By J. Stoeving - Published on Amazon.com
I was very disapointed with this book. It seems the author is very fond of talking, but forgets to make conclusions, and is essentially going nowhere. There is no "red line" throughout the book.

But let me be more specific. My problems with this book are :

1 : The author spends about 70% of the book talking about the sorroundings of Rennes-le-Chateau, telling us about lots of small villages and paths. But there is no map in the book!!!

This makes it impossible to follow the author unless you actually live in the area.

2 : The model mentioned in the title only occupies the last 30 pages. This is a shame, because it seems that this is where the author has some superior knowledge.

3 : There is a lack of structure in the book. It seems like a conversation has been written in form of a book.

My conclusion(!!) : Buy this if you own all other books on Rennes-le-Chateau. It has some speciel knowledge. But otherwise avoid it.

Good book even though no solid conclusion is reached. 17 Mar 2008

The story of Beringer Sauniere and Rennes le Chateau is one of those stories that grips everyone's imagination. I'm not sure if its Sauniere's bizarre behavior, or his even more strange accumulation of wealth but either way you look it it Rennes le Chateau is an enduring mystery. But it is also a mystery with nothing really going on. Much like Roswell it's been pretty played out, and aside from the phenomenal success of the DaVinci code / Angels and Demons nothing new is really going on. Or at least there wasn't anything new. Ok well we discovered Le Dossier Secrets was a fraud as was the Priory of Zion, but nothing else has really happened right? Wrong...

Now I gotta say...this is a little bit of a short book running about 114 pages, but contained within it is the first original research on the subject I've seen in awhile. Now there have been some criticisms that this book spends too much time on the back story, and while that is true (only from about page 83 on is about the model.) its still written in an interesting narrative I found engaging. But if you know the story well just skip to the last section (page 83).

The one thing I would say about this book, and ultimately its failing, is that it does not reach a conclusion. Instead ends the book with questions, which frankly is bad for a book, but on the other hand Rennes le Chateau is an enduring mystery which honestly lacks answers. But the model is a totally new spin on the story and original information, which to my knowledge cannot be found in any other book. So to that end you should buy it if you're interested in the subject. But first buy some of the other books to get up to speed.

It's a good book and the first real new information in about 30 years, and if you are interested in the subject and its idiosyncrasies, you should buy this book. If your new to the subject get up to speed first, then you'll appreciate this book.

But just for the record, I wish he had come to some conclusions, but then again I bought the book and I enjoyed it. Douzet is a very good writer and its an engaging read..

Interesting Read BUT Ultimately Unsatisfying conclusions. 6 Jan 2007

Overall, this volume presents more questions than answers..The mystery involved has engaged both best-selling writers and unknown(and often lunatic)hacks, and has become something of an industry for all involved...Saunire's"model"as written about in this book,is a topographical layout of certain locations near to Rennes-Le -Chateau where MAYBE the old priest found something that MAYBE consisted of some sort of treasure...
MAYBE,MAYBE,MAYBE...
Douzet is not forthcoming, and MAYBE the treasure mentioned is gold, jewels, ect, but if indeed these constitute the treasure one can only wonder why this sort of discovery would allow Sauniere to thumb his nose at his superiors,as has been documented that he did...Money may buy much, but the catholic church likes to be obeyed, especially by it's clerics, and mere money would not account for Sauniere's abiliity to flaunt not only his wealth but also his non-catholic themes in the face of his superiors, and get away with it,not in the early years of the 20th century at least, when all of this is supposed to have transpired...
MAYBE the treasure is"spiritual",like in something very mortal, and very non-divine about Jesus.."Holy Blood-Holy Grail",the book that put Rennes-Le -Chateau on the world-wide map postulates this notion, and does so a lot better than Douzet, whose iffy script leaves a lot to be desired...But while a Non-Divine Jesus, who may have survived the cross(if He ever was on it in the first place),married, moved to France and maybe sired a bloodline that exists to this day MAYBE would have raised eyebrows in 1900 such revealations certainly will not do so now...
Believers believe,DESPITE THE EVIDENCE TO THE CONTRARY,so any documented proof of a non-divine Jesus,no matter how sensational, will be discounted by the believers, and by the catholic church(which,as an institution and a business, will suffer loss if it's main product,i.e."salvation through Jesus" is shown to be a [...])..carbon dating testing has shown that the so-called "Shroud of Turin"is a very new item, less than 600 years old and not a product of the time period in which Jesus is said to have lived, but facts like this rarely-if ever-interfere with the fantasies of the believers, and so the shroud still retains it's alledged magic for these people, despite scientic evidence to the contrary...History shows that it was at the council of Nicea that BY BALLOT,Jesus was given divine status, fully four hundred plus years AFTER his alledged death & ressurection, making him the only ELECTED divinity in history, and seriously eroding the notion that he was/is "divine"by any other means, but history has not prevented the believers from closing both thier eyes and thier minds to the facts if the facts threaten thier fantasies...So it is doubtful then that ANY revealation about a mortal Jesus that Sauniere MAY have uncovered 100 years ago will have any impact whatsoever today...
In any event Douzet does not answer ANY of the questions he raises in this book,so what point is he trying to make by writing and publishing it?
