Product Description

Review

'The eagerly awaited updated version of The Equine Formulary has arrived, and the already decent book has been improved. it's author, Professor Derek Knottenbelt, is a world-renowned expert on equine medicine, and particularly for his role in preparing students for life in equine veterinary practise. His vast experience and aptitude for making things easy to understand shine through in this book.
The book is well orgabised and the contents pages are well set out... the bulk of the text is an exhaustive index of medicine. The Plethora of entries is a comforting reminder of the relatively large number of drugs that we have available for use. These are helpfully catergorized by use or action, aiding drug comparisons and therefore selection of the best remedy... this, I believe, will be the essential in-car reference guide for equine veterianry surgeons. it is certainly a must-have book for all recently qualified equine practioners, and those veterianarians who are seeing horses infrequently within the mixed practise setting.'

Product Description

This is an indispensable reference for equine veterinary practitioners, veterinary students, and others involved in breeding and keeping horses. This new edition has been fully revised, updated and re-written in a more user-friendly style and format with the inclusion of high quality line drawings and photographs to aid understanding. Also, a conscious decision was made to use generic drug names making this as relevant as possible for everybody working in the equine field all over the world.

I'm a vet in mixed practice and this book is fantastically useful. I do little horse work but this book has so many answers in it. Sections on drugs and interactions is simple and easy to follow.

I especially like the section on nerve and joint blocks - bit like a Haynes Manual for horses. Also sections on test selection, normal parameters etc.

Good book to have in the car if you do ant horse work (even if it's as reluctantly as me)!

This handbook contains concise yet very useful information relevant to equine practitioners.
It covers reference values, diagnostic tests(eg.nerve blocks),drugs used in equine medicine, and other clinical aids such as ageing and bandaging techniques.
The only drawback is that there are occasionally wrong or omitted words in the text and tables.
eg.p63 0.5% solution of epinephrine X > 0.5% solution of phenylephrine,p64 mydriasis X > miosis
p6 Table1.2 Word "EDTA" is omitted from the top of the far left column.
Apart from these kind of errors this handbook is still invaluable and highly recommended for all practitioners.

If you're a vet in equine practice and you don't have Knotty's masterpiece... get it NOW! All the drugs in sommon use in equine practice (indications, dosing, side effects, legalities), and a lot of others. In addition, the extra sections on therapeutics and diagnostics are useful field reminders, especially the section on nerve-blocks and euthanasia. If there is another book so useful and still pocket sized, I don't know what it is!
