21 years OCS have been going and here they are again with a new record. An incredible collection of songs. So many stand out tracks but Mrs Maylie, Saturday, Just a little bit of love, Rockfield, Fell in love on the street are fabulous. Musically and lyrically perfect. Harry Kidnap (written about Paul Weller's late father) is beautiful and I'm sure the lyrics have brought the great Paul Weller to tears. Village Life and Whats mine is yours are clever songs and remind me of The Beatles. Macca would have been proud of both these songs. The first single Magic Carpet Days is probably the weakest song on the album but still a very good, uplifting song. Old Pair of Jeans and Word are inspired OCS songs and Postal sounds like Cradock just laying down his anger over an amazing guitar backing. The lads head out on a full UK tour shortly and I'm sure the new songs, mixed with their old will remind everyone why they're still going strong. Saturday is a brilliant album and will appeal to old and new fans of the great OCS.

I'm a long-time OCS fan, but I was a little disappointed with the last two albums. The good news is that Saturday is a great return to form! With every track under four minutes, Saturday is a lively, upbeat album, and most importantly, it sounds like the band is really having fun.

It definitely sounds like OCS, but it's tough to make a direct comparison to their earlier albums. There aren't any standout anthems that I'd call guaranteed singles, like Riverboat or July, and there aren't any epics, like Get Blown Away or When Evil Comes. Although I miss that style a bit, it's not a bad thing that the band are doing things a little differently this time, and the album feels like it's not trying too hard to impress. It's a fun mix of different styles and catchy songs, and it reminds me most of B-sides, Seasides and Freerides.

A few songs are in my favourites already: Mrs Maylie has a fantastic opening that will have you singing for sure, Old Pair of Jeans reminds me of Give Me A Letter but jazzed up to the max, and What's Mine Is Yours has an excellent Beatles vibe.

I'm really enjoying Saturday, and I absolutely recommend it. If, like me, you were a bit disappointed with the last two albums, be sure to give this a try before you write off Ocean Colour Scene.

Brilliant OCS! 7 Feb 2010
Format:Audio CD
A superb collection of very catchy, shortish songs, but with great variety and sounds. I read Steve Cradock's comments about this being their 'psychedelic album' and commenting on the White Album. Well what struck me was that it is clearly OCS but quite happily embracing Beatles and 60's influences. I feel The Who in there too! This is a great achievement by the band, hardly a dip throughout. If you like OCS at all, this is a must. And if you don't or don't know them, I'd say it's still a must, a very polished, lively, upbeat album from what is still one of the best British bands around.

I've been a fan of OCS for over 20 years, ever since I saw them playing "sway" on the Word.
I have been a bit disappointed with their last few CD's to be honest, but this is a... Read more

Loved it
A really nice fusion of the usual obvious influence of styles (Stones/ Beatles & Weller of course) served up with slick precision. Some less obvious ventures too, i.e. jazz lounge. Read more

I don't like using the phrase 'back to form' as in this case it's not true, it's just better than the previous three albums! Read more
