Despite the title of this book possibly hinting otherwise, this book is primarily about weather satellites, and the 'home construction' of equipment to facilitate the 'home reception' of images from weather satellites. Whilst much of the content remains current, most of the computer and software related text is several years out of date; although to the interested amateur this may well be irreverent. If you intend building you're own weather satellite receiving station then you should probably buy this book, even though it needs updating. Don't spend your money buying this book 'just out of interest value'; borrow it from a library instead.
I found the style of writing to be a little irritating, as the author sometimes 'wanders off' in his description of the immediate subject, into describing his previous relevant life experiences whilst working in the now defunct British space research programme; you may, depending on your preference, not find this a distraction.
