Amazon Verified Purchase
I've tried all sorts of ways to play my MP3 music files in the car but always finished up with wires trailing around, and batteries that go flat. Never again, this little device is so compact, yet it does absolutely everything that I want. It plays from my USB memory stick's folder orientated collection, from SD card, and even has an input jack to connect to an external device. There are inbuilt bass and treble controls, simple push button operation, a remote control....and it even flags the track info to the car radio's display for you. All of this in one neat little package that plugs straight into the cigar lighter socket. Signal strength is good too. The one and only thing that I didn't find in the rather "Concise" manual, is that if you have any music files stored outside of your folder system, then it won't look at the folders. They must all be either in or out. A small price to pay, though, which also applies to to the product itself. Thoroughly recommendable.

I found the sound quality iof this product very good. Also I havent had to retune in new locations as yet.

The web site says it will handle 99 folders and 1999 tracks.

Actually it will hold well in excess of 99 folders - I checked it up to 400 folders. However the folder number displayed on the Soundfly is only correct up to 99. Over that number, it displays a dash in front of the 2 digits. So folder 101 displays as ,d01 and 201 also displays as ,d01.

The folder number does not display via the car RDS/tag system.

With regard to the capacity of music files, the Soundfly displays correctly up to 1999 - however it seems to hold and play in excess of 9500. But the first digit can only display as 1, so eg track 2031 displays as 1031 etc.

The track number displays correctly via the RDS/tag system.

The folder ordering is also quirky. The RDS/tag system displays track number, artist, and track title. But it doesn't display the album name. It orders by top level folder name, then by second level folder name etc as you would expect. However, it appears to order the shallowest folder depths first, and then the deeper ones after. So B/your_tracks, is before A/Ayour_tracks.

Safest bet is to maintain uniform folder depth, eg Artist/Album/Tracks

Would be 5* if had better display

I bought one of these on the back of good reviews I'd read on amazon.com. I wasn't expecting great things, but after a few weeks of use, I can say that I'm impressed.

First off, I have only been using it with the output from my MP3 player, so I can't comment on using the device as a player (USB device/SD card). I think it's worth mentioning that you need a decent MP3 player. I started off using it with a Sandisk Sansa Clip, which is a good unit in itself, but doesn't have a very high output from its headphone socket. I found that I need the Sansa Clip and the Soundfly turned up to max and even then the volume wasn't that great.

Once I started using an iPod Touch, the Soundfly really came into its own, as the iPod puts out more power. Coupled to this, it's really worth doing some research into what FM frequencies are not used anywhere in the UK (or your country). This helps avoid bleed-over from nearby FM radio stations. I found several alternatives: I use 94.7 which is perfectly fine - no interference whatsoever from outside sources!

I did experience a problem with the device, but an e-mail to the support guys brought a replacement unit to my door within a few days with no quibbling! That's the sort of support I like...

So in a nutshell - buy one!

great little device
Very happy with this device works perfectly using a memory slick as the source of music. The sound quality with the 3.5 jack is poor however must be a poor quality lead. Read more

great sound, but...
the car jack (if that is what you call it) is too big to fit my my car's charging socket, plus it's rather cheap looking. i'm afraid i've had to send it back.

Still deciding whether to return it
Quite disappointed at this product, as I returned a really cheap version to get this more costly version, thinking this would be better quality. It isn't. Read more
