5.0 out of 5 stars SIMPLY DIVINE ! 9 Nov 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
RECORDED AT RONNIE SCOTT`S CLUB IN JUNE 1977, THIS IS A GREAT RECORD OF THE DIVINE SARAH VAUGHAN LIVE AND IN HER PRIME. THE ATMOSPHERE IS "LATE AT NIGHT", AND SARAH`S AMAZINGLY HEARTFELT, INTENSE VOCALS, WILL MAKE THE HAIRS ON THE BACK OF YOUR NECK STAND UP! SOUND QUALITY IS EXCELLENT, "UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL", AND YOU FEEL AS IF YOU ARE THERE.
THE RECORDINGS WERE ORIGINALLY RELEASED AS TWO ALBUMS ON PYE RECORDS. THERE IS A SHORT CAREER HISTORY IN THE LINER NOTES.
SPARSE, BUT EXCELLENT MUSICAL BACKING, IS PROVIDED BY CARL SCHROEDER ON PIANO, WALTER BOOKER ON BASS, AND JIMMY COBB ON DRUMS. THERE ARE 15 TRACKS, ALL STANDARDS, INCLUDING A BEAUTIFUL GERSHWIN MEDLEY (FOUR SONGS). ALSO INCLUDED ARE...TENDERLY, THE MAN I LOVE, SOPHISTICATED LADY, BLUE SKIES, PASSING STRANGERS, EARLY AUTUMN, AND OTHER CLASSICS OF THE SAME STATURE. THIS IS NIGHTCLUB SINGING AT IT`S VERY BEST......ABSOLUTELY STUNNING, AND A WONDERFUL EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Peerless 9 May 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is a superb collection by the Divine One, recorded when vocally she was in her prime. Great intimate, clubby feel to the recording and fine support from her trio. A wonderful collection of standards including a knockout Gershwin medley. This is a very welcome addition to my extensive collection of CD's by this peerless artist, which covers her career from the early 50's to the 8o's.
Quite simply the greatest jazz singer of all time.
A word of warning; the breathtaking version of "Every thing must change" that is posted on Youtube and is said to be on this recording from Ronnie's is not included.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intimate Jam Session with Sassy 19 Dec 2000
By Peter - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Wow! One word that can describe this CD, an intimate, yet powerful look at the Divine One. The CD captures the smoky, after-hours feel of the nightclub, you feel like you're sitting in a live jam session. The listener is totally bedazzled by Sassy's commanding interpretations of these classic songs. She is well served by her jazzy trio; there's plenty of expert playing here. Vaughan has always excelled under minimal instrumentation because her vocals get more chances to shine. Wisely, Sarah keeps her well-known power in control and never overwhelms the material. These songs have been performed almost to overkill by various artists, but Vaughan sheds new light with her improvisational skills and emotional range. A rare and unknown recording that merits more attention by jazz fans all over.

5.0 out of 5 stars SUBLIME "SASSY" CONCERT~BRAVO SARAH!!! 21 Jun 2005
By Bradly Briggs - Published on Amazon.com

Sarah Vaughan is the greatest from her generation and beyond and nobody listening to this amazing small club concert at England's famed Ronnie Scott's will disagree! As Sarah matured her voice amazingly kept on getting better with more range and fuller sound all on display in this hard to find concert from the seventies. Classic recording is crystal clear, Sarah at the peak of her wondrous powers!!! Luckily experienced legendary Sarah Vaughan many times throughout the seventies in the period this great concert happened and there was nothing finer...anyone who loves a great voice lucky to obtain a copy of this magnificent concert will experience the art of singing at it's absolute finest...BRAVO Sarah and we really miss you!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars My favourite Vaughan album 3 Jan 2011
By A. Farthing - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I agree with everything the others have said. I posses the LP of this recording "Ronnie Scott's Presents Sarah Vaughan Live"; bought back when it first came out. It is well used so now play the CD. BUT why is "Send in the Clowns" missing off the CD; surely one of her best renditions of this song? Track it down and wonder why it was left off the CD. Almost the only reason I keep my record deck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Astonishingly good 24 July 2009
By Michael Squires - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is the best "live" album Sarah ever made. Her singing is exceptionally intimate, pitch perfect, disciplined, and inventive. Each song offers some angle that she freshly explores. For instance, she makes "Early Autumn," the Woody Herman classic, more poignant than usual. Gershwin's "The Man I Love," usually done as a tragic ballad, is given a fine up-tempo reading, ironic rather than cynical. Carl Schroeder, the pianist, provides just the right balance of support, leaving open spaces for her improvisation but offering complex chords too, ratcheting up the tension. In short, this album is the one I'd take to a desert isle.
