By Mrs. K. A. Wheatley TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE

I bought this book because I needed to learn how to bleed a radiator and couldn't face a real DIY book. I saw the author interviewed on the Book Show before Christmas and one of his key points was that although this was a humorous book, one could actually learn to do the things it lays out in each chapter. There is a chapter in the style of Emily Bronte teaching you how to bleed a radiator.

It was, from a practical point of view, useful to me. I also thought the pastiches were funny, clever and well thought out. I particularly liked Hunter S. Thompson building a fence, which made me laugh out loud.

The only thing I would say really is that it is a very slight volume. I read it in just over an hour. The book was rather costly given this, but nevertheless very witty and simultaneously pragmatic.

This book is a gem. Not only does the author provide note perfect pastiches of an extraordinary range of writers, he produced the parodic illustrations as well. The Edgar Allen Poe chapter is genuinely horrifying. Highly recommended.
