Product Description

Product Description

Sarah Jane and friends battle a deadly computer virus in this exclusive audio story, read by Elisabeth Sladen. Sarah Jane is in a Christmassy mood, but her cosy afternoon listening to carols is interrupted when Mr Smith suddenly announces that danger is imminent. The supercomputer has detected abnormal internet activity in the vicinity of Bannerman Road. Something alien is downloading into two PCs on the street - a computer virus over 50 times more destructive than any other on the planet. Both residents were chatting online when they started the download: but who were they chatting to? And what does the mysterious chatterbox want? It is up to Sarah Jane and friends to find out, before the deadly download takes over the Earth...Elisabeth Sladen, who stars as Sarah Jane in the CBBC TV series, reads this exclusive audio story, written by Jason Arnopp. The cover photograph shows Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane with Anjli Mohindra as Rani, Thomas Knight as Luke, and Daniel Anthony as Clyde.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great addition to a great series, 15 Jan 2012
This review is from: The Sarah Jane Adventures: Deadly Download (Audio CD)
Deadly Download is a 2010 edition to the Sarah Jane Adventures Audio Range. It is brilliantly read by Elisabeth Sladen and all of the characters in the story are very well written and well rounded. The story itself is engaging and shows the reader how life on Earth can sometimes be an adventure too!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not-so-deadly disc, 26 Dec 2011
By
R. C. McGinlay (Ilford, Essex) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Sarah Jane Adventures: Deadly Download (Audio CD)
Author Jason Arnopp aims for variety with his depiction of the first two victims of his deadly download: an elderly lady and a ten-year-old football fan. Neither of these falls into the popular notion of the typical internet user, which in reality is all sorts of people, but in cliché tends to be young men, who should get out more, looking at porn. That, of course, would never do in the family-friendly world of "The Sarah Jane Adventures", though Arnopp does manage to work in some moral guidance (not too heavy-handed) about the dangers of meeting strangers in online chat rooms and downloading files from unverified sources.

More stereotypical is the characterisation of local IT manager Ian Webster, an overweight, embittered sci-fi nerd, whose desk is littered with empty fast-food cartons and wrappers. Think Comic Book Guy from "The Simpsons" and you get the general idea.

Fortunately, this adventure is far from being the "worst episode ever", though the number of scenes that are written outside of Sarah Jane's point of view as the first-person narrator lead to a few clunky instances of: "as x and/or y later told me..."

This and The Sarah Jane Adventures: Wraith World were the final two audio books recorded by Elisabeth Sladen before her untimely death. Hearing them for the first time now, I couldn't help noticing the joie de vivre evident in her voice. You can practically hear her smile as she speaks the words, and her enjoyment as she plays the various characters, especially the eccentric Webster.

There's plenty to enjoy in this audio book, whether you listen to it on disc or as a not-so-deadly download.
