5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect HTPC card at a great price 31 Aug 2011

I brought this as an upgrade to the onboard graphics on my Asus P5E VM HDMI motherboard. Though the motherboard *can* put out 1080p via HDMI to the tv, it doesnt do it particularly well or smoothly and it was really beginnig to drag (plus you cant overclock with onboard graphics either!).

After doing a lot of research and reading a lot of reviews I plumped for the HD6450 and I'm glad I did. Firstly it's a huge improvement over the onboard graphics in every area. Images are sharp, rendering is clean and screen redraws/refresh are instantaneous (using media player/XBMC and general desktop switching). High Def 1080p/720p movies look fantastic and watching/flicking between Freesat HD channels (ITV1HD, 4HD, BBC HD etc) is smooth and quick.

Installation was very simple, just pop it into a spare PCIx16 slot, disable your onboard graphics (usually in the bios) and away you go. The passive onboard cooling means you can fit the card into a busy case. Mine is right next to a TBS 6981 DVB-s2 card and there is plenty of clearance between both cards for the air to circulate. Passive cooling also means no noisy fans, so perfect for a living room HTPC. The AMD software was a breeze to install, and the even without tinkering with the settings the picture on the tv was perfect from the minute it was set up. There are plenty of settings to fiddle about with if you are a video purist but if you like to 'set and forget' you cant go far wrong with this card.

Naturally this is NOT a card for gaming so dont even go down that road. Up your budget and get something more suitable. But for everyone else that's looking to seriously improve on their onboard graphics or HTPC experience you cant go wrong with the HD6450.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for me 12 April 2013

All i wanted was a quiet fan less GPU for one of my DAW's.
This is ideal.
I have used the Radeon's for this purpose in the past and they all worked flawlessly.
I don't play games so i cant comment on their performance there.
