Tiny little gem 7 April 2008
I have had my eye on this camcorder for a while now and after reading countless reviews etc i decided to take the plunge!

All in all im very pleased with it! its tiny! i was very suprised when i opened the box. Build quality is good and i got it the brown colour which looks really nice.

The quality is very good in good light and blows my old DV camcorder out the water! As for low light, i was expecting it to be bad after reading the reviews. But in all seriousness it is no worse than my old panasonic DV camera. All you have to do it choose the iso yourself and there will be little noise (i suggest iso 200 max)

Im only 20 so i dont want to be hauling a huge camcorder around when going abroad or taking my cam to the beach etc so this is perfect and it takes good quality stills to boot! There are lots of accessories in the box aswell.

Only thing is make sure you have a good spec computer if you plan on editing the video from the camera because the mp4 codec needs alot of processor power. My laptop can just about handle it but ive run into problems with the preview on my editing program being jumpy. So be careful.

So get this cam if u want a convenient camcorder that takes good quality video and stills in a small package you can take anywhere!

Sanyo Xacti HD700 27 Mar 2008
I have just bought this camera and so far I have been pleased with my purchase. The mixture of a 7 mega-pixel camera and a high definition video camera in one small form factor is just what i was looking for.
It should be said though that I do not see this as my main camera, rather as something I can carry in my pocket while I'm out and about and don't want to lug all my gear with me. For taking stills it is more than adequate with 7 mega-pixels and built in flash. It has several profiles for different environments,(portrait, fireworks, night-shooting, sports). It has automatic or manual exposure and focus and it also has a face tracking feature that I have not tried yet.
As a Video camera it can record at up to 720p which in bright light gives fantastic quality. It does suffer however from having a quite small lens so low light situations become a bit of a problem. I have noticed that in very low light it automatically bumps the ISO up and this gives a quite blocky picture which is a shame as in strong light the picture quality is fantastic. The ISO can be set manually to reduce this effect though. The other problem in low light is that the automatic focus tends to hunt a lot to get a fix. Switching to manual focus helps and this is controlled by the little joystick that is naturally under your thumb as you hold the camera, so it is not that fiddly.
This camera is not going to replace my SLR or my DV camera, but that is not the point. I can slip this in my pocket without really noticing it and can take stills or video whenever I like without having to lug a big camera bag around.

okay, Im no David Bailey, but I've gotta say this little camera is pretty good. Its not the best camera in the world but it should have the credit its due, Its very portable and lightweight, it has a good battery life, it has a flash for the still photos, you can swivel the screen to many different angles, it has a docking station for charging and connecting to Tv/ computer etc, comes with loads of accessories, and in all honesty has a very good picture. There are negatives which are slow to focus, and poor video in really poor light (same as most cameras though)but in all honesty for the price, I cant grumble too much, But what I will say is this "I have genuinely used this camera more in the last five weeks than any other camcorder I have owned before" and that is because of the ease of use and portabillity (dont need a big camera case, it comes with a little bag and easily fits in your pocket).
