Product Description

What is exactly eneloop?

eneloop is a combination of a rechargeable and a disposable battery the next evolutionary step for batteries into the 21st century. SANYO can ship the batteries to Amazon in an already charged state, without losing its power, because of it very low self-discharge. This means that you are purchasing an already charged battery. eneloop is as user-friendly as a disposable battery. Once charged, it keeps its charge for up to 6 to 12 months - (90 per cent of the charge after 6 months, 85 per cent after 12 months) In contrast to a disposable battery, eneloop can be charged up to 1000 times, thus eliminating the waste of 999 disposable batteries. Using eneloop rechargeable batteries really does pay off. Considering the cost of the eneloop battery, compared to a disposable battery, plus cost for the charger and the energy consumed by the charger, the investment for one eneloop returns easily after a few charging cycles. Now there's an end to this spending.
What is the difference between the "old" and the "new" improved eneloop?

1. An extra of 500 charging cycles - instead of being rechargeable 1000 times, the new eneloop is even rechargeable up to 1500 times.

2. Improved self-dischcharge. Even though the self discharge of the old eneloop was already very impressive, you can store the new eneloop for 3 years and still it will retain 75% of its capacity.

3. You need a battery, which is reliable even when having cold temperatures? Before eneloop was suitable for temperatures as low as -10°C - now even until -20°C.

4. The new eneloop is even more environment-friendly as it is pre-charged with solar energy in Japan.

I have a Canon powershot camera that is particularly heavy on batteries. I've tried a wide range of rechargeable batteries in it, from top price branded to no-name generic chinese cells. And a variety of mAh specifications from the lowly 1600mAh to the ridiculous claims of 2850mAh.

And I've had the same problems with all of them:

1. When I come to use my camera after a few weeks of it sitting in a drawer, the batteries that were fully charged before I put it away are now only good for half a dozen shots.

2. Even when freshly fully charged they compare poorly with a standard alkaline battery, especially when using flash.

3. Rubbish at low temperatures, forget them for your ski holiday pictures.

I've had my eye on these eneloop batteries for a while and now the price has come down considerably I thought I'd give them a go. And what a revelation, these perform just like standard alkaline batteries, except they're rechargeable. What more can I say, buy a set and you won't be disappointed.

Firstly you should be aware that the HR-3UTGA is the latest version and the HR-3UTG is the older battery.
I'm sure the older version is as good, but if you purchase these batteries from another source, then check on the model number before placing your order.
What I do like about these is that they keep up to 70% of their charge for up to a year, and with this order they come in their own travel case as well.
Everything has been said about the merits of these batteries so what more is there to say.
Talking to a professional photographer about the best way to recharge batteries, his advice was to use an "Intelligent" charger.
So I have purchased a Technoline Bc-700 Battery Charger from Amazon of course, and now I would not use anything else.
With this unit you have total confidence in your batteries being charged correctly.
What I found when I started to recharge all my old batteries was that the mAh reading varied on each battery.
This is because the charger only shows how much each battery has been charged to reach maximum charge.
This is very useful as you can then group batteries of the same discharge rate together, and establish which are coming to the end of their useful life.
Not like a normal charger which shows when a battery has been fully charged, not the condition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! 13 April 2011
By Fede
The first word that comes to my mind to describe these batteries is AMAZING.
Amazing because they last much longer (>5x) than any other cheap rechargeable batteries you can buy.
Amazing because they don't cost a fortune for this. You can spare a couple of euros/quids if you buy no-brand or shops branded batteries, but, really, there is just no comparison.
Amazing because, unlike other famous brands I tried, you don't pay their superb performance with a dramatic reduction in terms of maximum number of charging cycles (I'm now around my 70th cycle, I suppose. Other brands didn't go past 20...)
Amazing because they have no dimming in low temperatures. I've waited on purpose after winter to write this review, to be sure that I'd had the occasion to put the batteries under stress during alpine/touring skiing (minimum temperature was -15°C). The amount of photos I could take with the digital camera was really comparable to those in warm conditions and by far higher (10x) that any other rechargeable batteries I have tried, including the ones manufactured from famous brands.
Amazing because the total capacity is not a crazy number written on the package, but it is actually the real delivered performance. These batteries will last much longer than any no/shop-brand battery claiming to be a 3000mAh AA cell :)

The plastic case inside which they are delivered is a nice extra, which I found extremely practical for safe transport inside a backpack.

To put it short: just the best rechargeable batteries on the market!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 18 Sep 2011
You cant fault these batteries in any way at all. I got three pairs of these(ordered at different times), they all perform beyond expectations. The batteries actually come in a plastic case for four. I mean, one would think they are fake since there is no company packaging, but I think maybe these are just bulk imported and then distributed seperately. It states on the battery at least 1900 mAh, but i get about 2100 mAh. I am using the technoline BL700 charger for these and charge at 250 mAh in the 'discharge' mode (fast chargers may charge with high current, but they do damage the batteries in the long run). I think its essential that good batteries deserve a good charger and only then you may get their true potential.

I have been using these for my SLR camera and flash gun and they have outperformed the Ansmann 2850 mAh batteries I had. And the best thing, they have retained the charge for days. Allowed up to 1000 shots on my nikon D7000. And at this price, you cant get any better.

Only been using a short time, I got them for my bike light/torch that has been dimming in cold weather. These new Eneloops are rated to work as low as -20 degrees C, they certainly work at -4C unlike my other rechargeables which were struggling +4C. They also don't seem as 'fat' as some other rechargeable batteries, which can sometimes be a problem in fitting.
