Product Description

The new Terrain Maps waterproof and rip-proof road and hiking map of Santorini. At 1:25 000 scale, this is the only GIS map of Santorini made with data collected 100% through field survey. Mapping features the most complete road network of the island at the time of publication, with scenic routes marked in green. Printed on "Polyart" plastic paper, you can dunk this map in the sea, or leave it out in the rain! Mapping shows more hiking trails than any other map of Santorini, with great accuracy. All trails are measured in kilometers, so you can estimate the duration of your hike. On the reverse, the 7 best hiking routes are presented in detail. These are also distinctly labeled on the map so you can easily locate them. The island's entire coastline is mapped for the first time with TERRAIN's specially equipped and staffed cartographic vessel. This means that you can locate all beaches of the island, down to the tiniest cove! In fact, the special features of every single beach are recorded: whether it is sandy or pebbled, whether it features natural tree shade, water, a beach bar or organized water sports, whether the seabed in front of the beach is sandy or rocky (so that you will know where to anchor if sailing). Recommended mountain-bike routes are shown. Boundaries of NATURA 2000 areas are shown, so that you will know which parts of the island are of special environmental interest and beauty - thus you can enjoy traveling through them, but also take care to protect them. Hotel sites are indicated, so you can easily locate them. The reverse side features an illustrated mini travel guide, with information on the island's myths and history, geography and natural environment, sights and major attractions.

The printers claim the 'paper' wont tear - well we decided to be rough on the map. It didn't tear.

If you expect UK Ordnance Survey detail - forget it. In places detail is really lacking. I know Santorini has 360 churches and at least 3 in Pyrgos. Only 1 is marked in Pyrgos.

A relatively new housing development has many round 'windmill like' houses up a hill side - yes they are all marked as windmills!

It is large for manipulating in a standard hire car, hence some of the rough treatment. But is does have better detail than most other maps we've come across for Santorini.

Excellent map, very accurate and easy to use For general exploration of the island as a leisure visitor. Only minor criticism would be that most of the windmills marked on are either falling down, no longer there or are not real i.e. they are new buid fake windmills for tourist accom. We covered all the main roads and towns and several minor ones and only found two windmills marked that could be considered real and intact. Perhaps there should be seperate map symbols showing those that are real/intact and those that are fake or ruins only as the windmills are a key thing that visitors to santorini want to see
